Position Overview
We are seeking to recruit a Corporate Quality Assurance Director within the food manufacturing sector. This role will involve direct collaboration with the VP of Operations to develop and execute Quality Assurance and Operations protocols alongside our suppliers, co-packers, and plant QA teams.
Key Responsibilities:
- Formulate and execute strategies and initiatives to minimize food safety risks.
- Ensure that customer and regulatory standards are accurately integrated into the implemented programs to enhance compliance.
- Foster a culture that prioritizes food safety practices.
- Establish and maintain robust relationships with external organizations and industry experts to continuously improve expertise in the evolving landscape (regulatory, analytical, etc.).
- Anticipate the future needs of the business and evolving supply chains to proactively address challenges, including new business initiatives.
- Provide technical support to uphold the highest food safety standards.
- Disseminate best practices and facilitate compliance with requirements.
- Offer leadership and guidance for all Food Safety Systems, Quality programs, Regulatory Compliance, and Customer Specifications across the organization.
- Act as a pivotal leader in our dynamic, fast-growing enterprise, responsible for managing the Quality Assurance Department to deliver safe, high-quality products that meet and exceed customer expectations.
- Oversee internal audit programs, product recalls, traceability, and conduct mock recalls for all manufacturing sites.
- Engage with other industry organizations, building collaborative relationships with regulatory bodies.
- Provide technical support to ensure the highest food safety standards are maintained.
- Facilitate the sharing of best practices and ensure compliance with requirements.
- Analyze customer complaint data and laboratory results to implement corrective action strategies.
- Develop metrics and benchmarks for organizational performance.
- Utilize skills in strategic management, auditing, process evaluation, hazard assessment, risk management strategies, and root cause analysis to achieve business objectives and drive continuous improvements.
- Occasional travel may be required.
- Additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in food science or a related scientific discipline is required.
- A Master's degree or higher is preferred.
- Prior experience in QA within the food manufacturing sector is essential.
- 5+ years of experience with USDA and FDA compliance.
- 10+ years of relevant technical, quality, and food safety experience in Ready-to-Eat (RTE) consumer products, demonstrating a successful track record.
- 10+ years of managerial and leadership experience in Quality Assurance and Food Safety within the food industry.
- Proven experience in implementing, managing, and enhancing Quality and Food Safety Management Systems.
- Current knowledge of regulatory requirements, including FSMA Produce Safety Rule, Preventive Control for Human Foods, and Sanitary Transportation Rules.
- HACCP and SQF Advanced Practitioner Certification with extensive experience leading GFSI certification, particularly SQF for RTE products.
- In-depth knowledge of HACCP, Hygienic Zoning, Environmental Monitoring Programs, Sanitation and Allergen Preventive Controls, and Food Defense.
- Experience in QA management across multiple facilities.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.).
- Exceptional leadership and cross-functional team-building abilities, capable of guiding teams through significant changes while instilling confidence in achieving results.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a strong emphasis on technical reporting.
- Strong analytical, decision-making, and critical thinking capabilities.
- Ability to effectively manage time and meet deadlines.
- Demonstrate a sense of ownership and accountability.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships within the department and the organization.
- Ability to multitask with a keen attention to detail.
