Job Description

Position Description

In preparation for the November 5, 2024 General Election, the Department is seeking applications for one seasonal position of Poll Worker Program Coordinator.

Beginning a few months before each election, the Poll Worker Program works to recruit, train, assign, and support paid volunteers who will serve as poll workers on Election Day. In addition to the range of duties assigned to the 1403 job code, , the person in this position will be involved in the recruitment, training, and assignment of poll workers and administration of the High School Student Poll Worker and Ambassador Programs designed to engage students and instill life-long civic participation among the city's future voters.

This position reports to the Poll Worker manager, is responsible for performing important clerical work involving extensive knowledge of the election process, and provides direction and may oversee the work of temporary clerical workers supporting the election process.

The ideal candidate will have a strong work ethic and a high level of integrity, interacting well with outside agencies and members of the public. This person will also be able to present information in a clear and engaging manner to a variety of audiences and to draft professional written correspondence. The ideal candidate will have election related/community outreach experience, be familiar with San Francisco neighborhoods, know how to use common computer programs such as the Microsoft Suite and Adobe Acrobat. With this skillset, they will:

Assist in planning, organizing, and supervising the day-to-day operations, staffing and resources of the Poll Worker division; Prepare training materials and conduct training for temporary workers supporting the Poll Worker division; Assist in organizing recruitment and assignment of poll workers and high school student poll workers;  Strengthen the Department’s relationship with local high schools with the goal of recruiting high school student poll workers; Schedule, coordinate, and conduct poll worker recruitment events and presentations; Oversee all communication with poll workers and support temporary workers in responding to poll worker inquiries; Process poll worker stipends;  Provide general clerical support and assist with other tasks, as needed; Assist in the Election Center on Election Day; and Assist with post-election tasks as needed

Position Schedule, Requirements, and Work Location

This is a seasonal position with the start date contingent upon completion of the hiring process. The Department intends to fill this position as soon as possible. The end date for this position is approximately the second week of November 2024, with opportunity for assignment extension depending on the operational needs of the Department in the post-election cycle.

Work will primarily be on site at the Department of Elections Office at City Hall, San Francisco, CA. Travel within the city and field work will be required as needed. Work hours will vary in accordance with the demands of the election cycle and will range between 40 and 60 hours per week. Although most work is expected to be completed during normal workday hours, 8 Monday through Friday, employees must be available to work overtime both during the week and on weekends as necessary. Overtime hours will be paid at the hourly rate.

This is a temporary exempt as-needed position. Temporary exempt as-needed employees who have worked more than 1040 hours in any consecutive 12-month period, and whose normal work week at the time of inclusion in the system is not less than 20 hours are eligible for health coverage and retirement benefits. Position Salary: to Hourly

$69,186 to $84,084 annually

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

The person in this position must have two (2) years (equivalent of 4000 hours) of verifiable clerical experience including preparing and maintaining a variety of records and documents, public contact and gathering information.

Substitution: Completion of a clerical training program (240 hours) or the equivalent of 15 units of coursework from an accredited college or university may substitute for up to 6 months of clerical experience.

Additional Requirement: This position requires a valid California driver’s license and a clean DMV record. Successful candidates will be required to show their valid CA driver’s license and provide a copy of their latest DMV record before an offer can be made.
