Summary:

The School of Medicine’s largest department, Internal Medicine, is recruiting a Director of Operations to provide operational management and support to the department’s 11 sub-specialty divisions, which are fundamentally supported by nine Associate Administrators. The Director will be responsible for the strategic management, planning, policy formation, and implementation of programs and/or services to ensure daily and long-term objectives are met. The incumbent will work in collaboration with departmental and divisional senior leadership to develop strategic operations processes.

Core Responsibilities

• Partners with the Sr. Administrator in the oversight of the day-to-day operations of the 11 sub-specialty divisions including: strategic planning, clinical operations, ambulatory and hospital alignment, human resources, business development, recruitment and other components of the departments’ mission
• Establish synchronicity of business processed across all components of the tripartite mission

Essential Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree plus a minimum of 5 years of relevant professional experience or equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
• Extensive knowledge of financial, operations and administrative policies and procedures
• Exceptional decision-making skills
• Strong oral and written communication skills
• Strong organizational and problem-solving skills
• Ability to design, manage, and implement programs
• Experience serving as a leader by building, leading, motivating, and assessing teams
• Experience in holding employees accountable for individual results and drive overall effectiveness of team
• Demonstrate ability to plan and direct the implementation and modification of technological components of multiple functional areas
• Demonstrate ability to collect, analyze, and interpret information
• Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff and student environment or commitment to do so as a staff member at VCU

• Master’s degree
• 10 years’ relevant professional experience
