The VCU Institute for Women’s Health (IWH) is a chartered university-wide institute approved by the Board of Visitors in 1999. It is the only community of scholars across VCU that conducts, promotes, and integrates interdisciplinary research, education, and community engagement in women’s health and sex/ gender differences. As the central coordinating entity for women’s health at VCU, IWH has been instrumental in identifying new and emerging opportunities and influencing institutional priorities related to women’s health.

Since its establishment, IWH has achieved major accomplishments in the areas of research, education, and community engagement and has increased the University’s visibility as a national leader in women’s health. In 2003, the Institute was designated by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Office on Women’s Health as one of 20 National Centers of Excellence in 2 Women’s Health. The Institute currently has over 130 affiliate faculty representing 12 schools from across VCU.

Program Coordinator to perform professional work with significant levels of independence often supporting the day-to-day management of research portfolios and programs for a central office or one or more departments, centers, or business units. Their decision-making has a significant impact on service delivery. Program Coordinators typically report to a senior research administrator, manager, director, or PI. With limited supervision, exhibit attention to detail, good written/verbal communication, analytical skills, ability to complete assignments, solve problems, and generate/interpret reports. Under direct supervision of more experienced research administration personnel or a Senior Management position (Assistant/Associate Director/Dean).

Primary Responsibilities:

Program Coordinator is a 100% effort position to manage the day-to-day tasks of the award; communications between investigators, stakeholders, NIH partners, Pilot Programs, and any other partners; coordinate the Pilot Program - including application cycles, budget management with the host institution, etc.; organize and coordinate the annual meeting for the Pilot Programs; support development and dissemination of communications to stakeholders (i.e. newsletter); and support the investigative team with project objectives. Provide administrative support for the pilot program activities, including managing applications, review committees, awardee support, feedback to nonawardees etc. Provide administrative support for the multiple conferences / symposia / meetings for the VCU AGIE.
Schedule team meetings including meetings between the VCU team, NIH, and Pilot Award Institution partners. Facilitate meetings and record minutes. Monitor follow-up responsibilities for each team member. Prepare annual progress report for NIH with limited supervision. Plan and execute annual conference. Coordinate application and award processes for the Pilot Program with the Director. Prepare and disseminate marketing materials for the award activities. Assist with budget management for the home award and the Pilot Program sub-awards as
needed.
Minimum Hiring Standards:

Bachelors / Masters or equivalent and 3 years relevant professional experience, or equivalent combination of education, experience, and training. Must have a demonstrated commitment to fostering diversity and inclusion in past experiences or a commitment to do so as a staff member at VCU.

Preferred Hiring Standards:
Experience with application and review processes. Experience with conference/event planning and execution. Experience with managing large, diverse teams that may include students, faculty, community members, etc. Experience with marketing/promotions - designing and disseminating publicity materials. Written and oral communication skills. Experience with budget management. Experience with Strategic Development.

This is a restricted position with a set end date after one year, with the possibility of extending up to 5 years and continued employment is dependent upon project need, availability of funding, and performance. Position will remain open until filled.
