About this Position 

The Commerce Director’s Office provides centralized finance, budget, communications, marketing, legal, IT and HR services and resources for the Department Divisions and attached boards.

The Payroll and Contracts Specialist is responsible for administering payroll processes for the department and reviewing department contracts to ensure compliance with contracting policies and state purchasing procedures. Payroll responsibilities include processing payroll, troubleshooting errors and working with employees or managers to make appropriate corrections, calculating and processing leave payouts, making employee data changes in SABHRS (the human resources information system), responding to payroll questions, and educating agency staff on payroll policies and procedures. Contract responsibilities include coordinating with the agency accounting and legal teams to provide guidance for agency staff regarding which contracting or purchasing procedures apply, compiling and routing contract documents for approval, coordinating with the state procurement bureau, tracking contract status, and filing contract documents in applicable electronic filing systems.

What are we looking for?

Education and Experience:

·An Associate’s Degree in business, accounting, finance or a closely related field

·Experience processing payroll is preferred

·Alternate combinations of education and experience will be considered on a case-by-case basis.

·It would pique our interest if you had SABHRS and/or State of Montana procurement experience
