This position is located in the Department of Commerce (DOC), National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), National Weather Service (NWS), Alaska Region HQ (ARH), Environmetal and Scientific Services Division (ESSD) with the location being negotiable after selection (see list of locations below).

Duties

The working title of this position is Science Technology Integration Scientist. The Science Technology Integration Scientist :

Develops, collaborates, implements, and reports on innovative scientific techniques, improved forecast processes, and new methods to communicate operational weather, water, ice, and ecological forecast information to support improved operational decision support services for significant environmental events, transportation logistics, subsistence activities in Alaska. Serves as an authoritative source of consultation and plays a key role in the transfer of new science and technology from the research community to support NWS Alaska Region operational requirements Participates and/or leads regional, national, or other teams with a focus on a variety of science and technology topics. Gathers operational science and technology requirements in coordination with the programmatic and policy side of the Division and field offices for decisions on the most appropriate new science and technological practices to incorporate into operations based upon collaboration, evaluation and verification activities. Plans, leads, and reports on Arctic Test Bed and Proving Ground evaluations and activities to support the migration of successful new technologies and processes into operations. These duties are described at the full performance level of the GS-13. The GS-12 is developmental leading to such performance.
