Position Overview:
This role is designed for a dedicated professional in the field of physical sciences, specifically within the National Park Service. The selected candidate will engage in a variety of responsibilities that support both regional and park-specific initiatives.
Key Responsibilities:
The Physical Scientist will be tasked with:
- Gathering geological, geomorphic, and hydrological field data to aid in various projects.
- Collecting high-precision GPS data following established protocols.
- Utilizing software such as ArcPro to visualize and analyze collected data.
- Creating comprehensive reports, delivering presentations, and developing web content related to natural resource management.
Employment Conditions:
Applicants must be U.S. citizens and may be subject to a background check. Compliance with the Selective Service Registration Act is required for male applicants. The selected individual will need to enroll in the Direct Deposit Electronic Funds Transfer Program.
As part of the job, the employee may be required to operate a government vehicle, necessitating a valid driver's license within a month of hiring. Flexibility in working hours is essential, as the role may involve on-call duties, evening shifts, weekends, and holidays.
Physical Requirements:
The position may involve strenuous activities, including standing, walking, climbing, and lifting objects weighing up to 40 pounds. Work will be conducted in various environments, including potentially hazardous areas.
Qualifications:
To qualify for this position, candidates must meet specific educational and experiential criteria:
- A bachelor's degree in physical science, engineering, or mathematics with a minimum of 24 semester hours in relevant coursework.
- Alternatively, a combination of education and experience equivalent to the aforementioned degree requirements.
- Experience in collecting and analyzing geospatial data is highly valued.
