Job Summary

Ahtna Engineering Services, LLC is seeking a highly skilled Environmental Scientist to join our team. As an Environmental Scientist, you will play a key role in providing technical environmental chemistry support and contributing to various environmental remediation and monitoring projects.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Project Execution: Conduct laboratory analytical data review and review and interpret chromatograms, prepare Sampling and Analysis Plans, QAPPs, Data Quality Objectives, ADEC Laboratory Data Review Checklists, and Data Quality Reports in accordance with Federal and State regulatory guidelines.
  • Client Support: Communicate with environmental laboratories, evaluate laboratories for compliance with contract requirements, and complete laboratory corrective action monitoring plans.
  • Site Investigation: Conduct and oversee site investigation and assessments in accordance with Federal and State regulatory guidelines.
  • Project Management: Adhere to schedule and financial objectives as specified by project management, control time and expenditures to achieve project goals.
  • Professional Development: Update job knowledge by reading historical documentation, publications, and other information specifically related to applicable disciplines.
  • Team Leadership: Provide scientific and technical guidance, support, coordination, and oversight to project staff preparing written project documentation.
  • Quality Assurance: Review and provide documentation of environmental technical standards, guidelines, policies, and formal regulations to ensure proposals meet all appropriate requirements.

Requirements:
  • Bachelor's Degree: Bachelor's Degree in Chemistry, Environmental Chemistry, or a related field.
  • HAZWOPER Certification: Current 40-Hour HAZWOPER.
  • Driver's License: Valid Driver's License with clean driving record, able to drive company vehicle.
  • Computer Skills: Proficient computer skills using Microsoft Office Suite and databases such as Access and PowerPoint.
  • Communication Skills: Adept at explaining technical aspects of fieldwork to internal and external clients verbally and in writing.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • ADEC Qualified Person: ADEC Qualified Person.
  • HAZWOPER Refresher: 8-Hour HAZWOPER Refresher.
  • CPR/1st Aid Certification: CPR/1st Aid Certified.
  • Experience with Federal Clients: Experience working on projects with Federal clients.
  • Database Management: Experience with creating and maintaining databases.
  • Risk Assessment and Toxicology: Previous experience with risk assessment and/or toxicology.
  • Alaska Native Cultures: Experience and knowledge of Alaska Native cultures.

Physical Demands:

Reaching with hands and arms for items above and below sight level, talking, hearing, and seeing (up close, at a distance, along the periphery, with depth, color perception, and the ability to adjust focus); walking from place to place within the project location with occasional use of stairs and no elevator available; bending, pushing, pulling, and standing for up to 12 hours.

Frequent lifting of up to 50 pounds, such as small electrical components, equipment, and other materials.

Work Schedule:

Monday - Friday, 8:00 to 5:00 or as business/operational needs dictate.
