Summary

The position is located in the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), Veterans Health Administration (VHA), Mid-Atlantic Health Care Network (VISN 6). The primary duties of the position are to coordinate all administrative aspects of the heart and lung program and assure the smooth coordination of all administrative activities pertaining to heart and lung transplantation.

Duties

Duties include but are not limited to the following:

Administrative
Coordinates all Quality Analysis (QA) activities. Maintains the funding, credibility, and accreditation of the Heart and Lung Transplant program by accurately and timely reporting data. Researches problems and/or reviews issues and requests· related to information regarding provisions for medical care, eligibility, etc. Constructs and manages the multiple database programs which track patient specific information for clinical research projects as well as multiple organizations and review bodies such as the Medical Center, MCV, Veterans Integrated Service Network (VISN) 6, VA Central Office (VACO), United Network for Organ Sharing (UNOS), LINET (information system), and Joint Commission on Accreditation of Hospital Organizations (JCAHO). Assesses, evaluates, modifies, develops and implements new methods to meet the needs of the transplant program. Sets up and coordinate patient's follow up care. Consults with Transplant Coordinator I Director and schedules follow up tests to minimize hospital stay. Data Management and Reporting Manages, compiles, and tracks data and statistical information in support of the operation of the transplant programs using multiple software programs such as UNOS On-Line Database (UNet), VA Program Database (Access), VIST A/CPRS, Transplant Website, CSIQP - VACO database for the heart transplant patients. Manages the on-line University Renal Research and Education Association (URREA) reports for the facility for the scientific registry of transplant recipients pertaining to survival data. Serves as contact person for the transplant program in dealing with referring hospitals, organizations, and teaching institutions. Assigns information resource privileges to appropriate personnel in the Medical Center, Organ Procurement Organization (OPO) and the Tissue Typing Lab at the affiliated University. Administratively coordinates ongoing transplant research and endeavors.
Budgetary Services Tracks referrals to the Hospitality House and tracking. length of stay, processing of taxi receipts for patients, ordering equipment and supplies, as needed, for the program, and preparing reports for Department of Veteran Affairs Central Office (VACO) on expenditures. Participates in the budget review and execution of the transplant outlier funds.
