The mission of the Health Department is to provide health services that enhance and ensure the health of all Loudoun County residents. 

Job Summary

The Loudoun County Health Department seeks a highly motivated and skilled individual to join our team as an Administrative Assistant. This position will support the Administration Division and will report to the Public Health Operations Officer. It will be based in the Loudoun County Government Center, at 1 Harrison St., SE, Leesburg, VA, 20175. The core work hours will be Monday through Friday, from 8:30 am to 5:00 pm.

Under general direction, this position will perform complex administrative, customer service, project, and program support for the Health Department's Administration Division, including supporting operations, human resources, budget, finance/procurement, compliance, records management, and strategic planning functions.

Examples of duties include, but are not limited to: coordinating meetings and interviews; assisting with purchasing activities including office supplies and equipment; tracking and coordinating updates of the county performance metrics; assisting with records retention management; assisting with human resources and onboarding functions; coordinating county and motor pool vehicle usage by department staff; maintaining spreadsheets and databases and producing reports; assisting with monitoring and updating department standard operating procedures; managing booking, operations, and appearance of conference room.

The ideal candidate should possess the following: knowledge of business English, proofreading, and spelling; excellent written and verbal communication skills; understanding of record keeping and filing best practices; ability to work independently or as part of a team; ability to identify and solve problems; ability to organize and prioritize work; attention to detail; extensive knowledge of office management systems and procedures; proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite or similar software; ability to maintain confidential information.

Salary is commensurate with experience and education. 

Minimum Qualifications

High School diploma or equivalent; three (3) years of related clerical/administrative work experience with computer automated systems and office applications experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred: Experience working in a government environment; experience or education in human resources or business functions.  Strong computer skills.

Job Contingencies and Special Requirements

Valid driver's license and good driving record (driving records may be reviewed annually for continued qualifications). Pass pre-employment background checks, including criminal, credit, and driving record checks. Fingerprinting is required as part of the background checks.

Must have or obtain a Notary Public license within 30 days of hire.
