Our Mission

Oregon Parks and Recreation Department's (OPRD's) mission is to provide and protect outstanding natural, scenic, cultural, historic and recreational sites for the enjoyment and education of present and future generations.

Our Guiding Principles

  • “Is there something we should stop doing to free resources for higher priority work?”

Respect guardrails. We stay legal, ethical, and safe when pursuing 1 and 2 by:

  • Supporting each other to know which guardrails are necessary, and which can be questioned before we run into them.

  • Keeping ourselves and our teams grounded, healthy, and engaged so the agency is unified in public service.

  • Collaborate with internal and external customers across the state enterprise.

  • Participate in the development of the Department’s biennial budget and evaluate impacts on programs, personnel, and organizational changes, recommending action to promote effective and efficient program service delivery.

  • Oversee negotiations for OPRD at collective bargaining; analyze collective bargaining agreement proposals and oversee the development of Department position papers.
