The Administrative Director of Sustainability Program Office will provide leadership direction and subject matter expertise on healthcare decarbonization strategies to address issues such as energy use, resource conservation, pollution reduction, waste elimination, transportation, education, and building design. With a fast-accelerating program and a team committed to making impactful change, the Administrative Director of Sustainability will play an integral role in vigorously pursuing Stanford Health Care's commitment to Sustainability.This is a Stanford Health Care job.

A Brief Overview
The Administrative Director of Sustainability Program Office (SPO), working directly with senior administrative and physician leadership, is responsible for developing and executing the program's multi-year strategy. Provides leadership direction and subject matter expertise on healthcare decarbonization strategies to address issues such as energy use, resource conservation, pollution reduction, waste elimination, transportation, education, and building design. Oversees the execution of business, financial, and operational priorities. Responsible for cross-functional leadership of both internal and external resources to ensure high-quality output and achievement of goals. Drives engagement within the department and across the Enterprise.

What you will do
  • Goal Setting & Strategy Direction – Responsible for developing the department's strategy in alignment with the multi-year and GHG reduction targets. Identifies impact opportunities within the clinical and non-clinical landscape. Responsible for the success and long-term vision for the Sustainability Program Office. Evaluate and approve proposals for sustainability projects, considering factors such as cost effectiveness, technical feasibility, and integration with other initiatives.
  • Plan Execution - Drives the execution of programs and projects to meet Stanford Health Care's (SHC) Sustainability goals across key impact areas. Identifies pilot projects and programs to enhance the sustainability research agenda.
  • Tracking & Reporting – Responsible for tracking and reporting of the program's progress against targets. Conducts quarterly business reviews (QBR) to key stakeholders and sr. leadership. Holds the department accountable to key performance indicators (KPIs). Monitors and evaluates the effectiveness of sustainability programs. Write and distribute financial or environmental impact reports.
  • Resource Management – Oversees a highly cross-functional team of internal and external resources. Manages the department's labor and non-labor budgets.
  • Internal & External Advocacy – Builds and manages internal and external relationships to stay informed on emerging trends, standards, and issues impacting the sustainability program. Advocates for the integration of sustainability targets in the organization's priorities. Influences healthcare leaders to recognize the link of sustainability to human health and health equity. Partners with leaders across the Enterprise to build a Culture of Sustainability.
  • Innovation & Industry Best Practice – Explores internal and external partnerships to drive innovation and collaboration. Participates in conferences and events to represent SHC. Seeks partnerships with other healthcare institutions to advance sustainability in healthcare. Identifies educational, training, or other development opportunities for sustainability employees or volunteers. Maintains knowledge of current events, sustainability emerging topics, and technology.
Education Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in a work-related field/discipline from an accredited college or university.
  • Master's degree preferred
Experience Qualifications
  • Ten (10) years of progressively responsible and directly related work experience
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Knowledge of local, regional, and national emerging sustainable business strategies
  • Knowledge of healthcare waste management practices and regulatory compliance
  • Knowledge of energy management and reduction strategies with the goal of decarbonization
  • Knowledge of Scope 3 reduction strategies
  • Knowledge, in general, of environmental practices and procedures in hospital setting
  • Working knowledge of the drivers for sustainable building design
  • Knowledge of a variety of local and national associations that are primarily focused on sustainability practices in organizations
  • Knowledge of financial processes including proven ability to track and manage budgets, capital planning and contract management
  • Ability to establish strategic direction and plans
  • Ability to implement change
  • Ability to communicate effectively and solve complex problems.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and engage large teams
  • Ability to manage resources including people
  • Ability to negotiate and influence without authority

Base Pay Scale: Generally starting at $ $121.26 per hour

The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training. This pay scale is not a promise of a particular wage.
