A Brief Overview

Responsible for developing and maintaining long term productive relationships with HMOs, PPOs, capitated medical group, government payers, and other payers that support the hospitals and physician groups strategic goals and objectives of Stanford Health Care including Stanford Medical Center, Stanford Faculty, University Healthcare Alliance, Affinity and Stanford Health Care/Valleycare. Negotiates contracts with payers that meet the financial, operational and strategic goals of Stanford Health Care. Ensures that these agreements consider and balance the needs of all Stanford Health Care constituencies including hospitals and physicians. Position collaborates with senior management, physicians, service line administrators and operational departments to develop an understanding of new therapies, technologies, and procedures to ensure that their costs are appropriately reflected and reimbursed in managed care agreements. Collaborates with senior management in the development and facilitation of business development strategies. Directs physician contract proposal modeling and miscellaneous analytical activity as assigned.

What you will do

  • Responsible for the successful negotiation and management of designated payor agreements including developing, evaluating and implementing and establishing profitable payor relationships to achieve Stanford Health Care's objectives.
  • Develops and maintains productive working relationships with internal and external customers.
  • Evaluates contracts to optimize pricing and strategically align hospital and physician incentives.
  • Negotiates contract terms and payment rates that are consistent with Stanford Health Care's financial and legal guidelines and overall contracting strategies. Ensures timely and effective implementation of contracts through communication with key Stanford Health Care departments and others as appropriate.
  • Responds to requests for assistance in resolving a wide range of contract performance and operational issues associated with the implementation of contracts.
  • Monitors industry trends to identify opportunities and potential problems for Stanford Health Care.
  • Provides support to department and various other Stanford Health Care departments on issues of managed care strategy, reimbursement, cost, payer mix, and other contract specific issues.
  • Analyzes contract performance using data maintained by the department and responds quickly and effectively to significant trends.
  • Researches options for participation in new managed care contracts.
  • Responds to physician concerns relative to contract pricing, cost, managed care, etc. as needed.
  • Acts as a liaison in developing strong interdepartmental working relationships with senior management, department administrators, physicians, etc., regarding managed care strategy, contracting and operational issues.
  • Works with service lines to identify programs to market and facilitates program development to meet strategic objectives relative to managed care contracting.

Education Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a work-related field/discipline from an accredited college or university
  • Advanced degree preferred

Experience Qualifications

  • Minimum 10 years of broad and extensive experience managing and leading programs, in a healthcare setting, preferably including both medical group and hospital experience, and in work units or departments of comparable size, scope and complexity

  • Ability to administer and negotiate contractual agreements
  • Knowledge of health care, marketing, managed care strategy, financial/contract analysis and the medical reimbursement environment

Base Pay Scale: Generally starting at $ $111.16 per hour

The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training. This pay scale is not a promise of a particular wage.
