* Full Time

St Catherine of Siena Hospital, Smithtown, New York

St Catherine of Siena Hospital is one of six hospitals in Catholic Health providing medical care to its community on Long Island, New York and is currently seeking an internal medicine residency program director to start a new training program. Located on Long Island New York residents are surrounded by a rich culture and history offering a diverse palette of attractions and points of interests. Children benefit from some of the best school districts and recreational activities. From professional sports, white sandy beaches, water activities, museums, golf, hunting and camping, ice skating, cross-country skiing and sledding, whatever the season, Long Island has it all.

Good Samaritan University Hospital, one of Catholic Health's premier hospitals, supports St Catherine of Siena as the institutional sponsor accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME). Throughout the system, there are residency-training programs in: emergency medicine, family practice, obstetrics and gynecology, pediatrics, physical medicine and rehabilitation, surgery, podiatry, as well as fellowships in Minimally invasive gynecologic surgery and pediatric emergency medicine. Currently under development are training programs in psychiatry, surgical critical care and maternal fetal medicine, as well as a transitional internship. Currently at St Catherine of Siena Hospital, a general surgery residency program has recently been approved and submission to the ACGME for a new residency in psychiatry has occurred. The Internal Medicine Program Director must administer and maintain an educational environment conducive to educating residents/fellows in each of the ACGME competency areas and in conformance with Catholic Health policies and procedures. The support of the Department of Graduate Medical Education and the resources available will provide the foundation to the Program director to develop a quality-training program in internal medicine. The time committed to the nonclinical administrative time will be commensurate with ACGME requirements and clinical duties will be supported based upon the physician's training and interests to provide for a full-time position.

Selected duties may be delegated to faculty or training program administrators, however, the Program Director will participate as a voting member on the Graduate Medical Education Committee, and will be responsible to ensure that all ACGME requirements are completed in a timely and accurate manner.

  6. Provide each resident with documented, semiannual, competency-based evaluations of performance meeting with each individual trainee and providing mentorship and support.
  7. Complete a final summative evaluation that also documents the resident's performance during the final period of education, and verify that the resident has demonstrated sufficient competence to enter practice without direct supervision;

    Responsibilities include:
    • Supervising, overseeing and teaching medical students, interns, and residents rotating through the department and division.
    • Maintaining high standards and quality of care to the patients cared for
    • Promoting high quality, cost effective care based on the best medical evidence
    • Participating in data collection to assess patient care and satisfaction studies
    • Making best efforts to keep current with developments in pediatrics, medical management and related areas through CME programs, medical literature review and medical staff conferences
