All MWEOC staff have emergency assignments and are considered deployed in place. Exercises and activations are planned and unplanned, and may require long hours, nights, weekends and holidays.

All MWEOC employees are:

What will I do in this position if hired?

In this position, you will serve as a Branch Chief, Supervisory Emergency Management Specialist responsible for overseeing staff who perform substantive mission-oriented emergency readiness and preparedness work and serving as an advisor to senior-level management concerning intentional and/or unintentional crises, disasters, or other humanitarian emergencies

Typical assignments include:


Overseeing staff serving as experts participating in risk assessments and maintains an understanding of the variety of natural, technological, and terrorism risks faced by localities, regions, and the Nation as a whole.

Assessing risks by collecting information regarding the threats and hazards, including the projected consequences or impacts.
Coordinating assessments to ensure the participation of stakeholders to share information, account for
population-specific factors, and understand the initial and cascading effects of a threat or hazard.

Directing the capturing, reporting, and analysis of data relating to the organization's preparedness and readiness operations and directs or personally performs special studies or projects.

Monitoring expenditures and funding sources to assure that funds are available when needed and reviewing requests for unplanned expenditures; preparing and/or approving requests to senior-level management for additional funding and provides adequate justifications; serving as a Contracting Officer's representative.

Travel requirements in support of emergency operations may be extensive in nature (weeks to months), with little advance notice, and may require employees to relocate to emergency sites with physically austere and operationally challenging conditions.
