The attorney will also represent the Postal Service in a first-chair capacity in cases before the Postal Service Board of Contract Appeals, primarily with respect to claims pertaining to leases.
Assignments may also include providing legal advice on government procurement and environmental matters. The candidate must have experience drafting and reviewing complex agreements and advising clients in sophisticated transactions.The selected attorney should have expertise providing legal advice with respect to real estate matters - sales, leases, acquisitions, complex development transactions, and property management.
Knowledge of IP, government contracts, and commercial litigation is a plus. Candidates should demonstrate an ability to work independently on multiple projects.
Alternatively, if the candidate does not have the required real estate experience, the successful candidate must demonstrate excellence in the practice of law through a combination of education, training, and experience and the following requirements.
The candidate must have a minimum of three years of legal experience in a leading firm or in-house general counsel's office.
Experience as a federal judicial clerk is a plus. The candidate must be an exceptional communicator who is capable of complex negotiations, working with diverse clients, and multi-tasking.The candidate must have the ability to be a dealmaker, a team player, and possess proven initiative and follow through.
ResponsibilitiesConducts legal research and prepares written material for use in representing the Postal Service and advising postal management officials.
Participates in conferences necessary to representing or advising Postal Service officials.
Directly advises postal management officials and represents the Postal Service in legal matters involving outside parties.
Prepares replies to inquiries from Congress, government agencies, and the public.
Prepares opinions, memoranda, decisions, regulations, testimonies, or formal filings in proceedings in which the Postal Service is a party.
