Technical Product Manager

New York, New York, United States Heron Data Full time

To support our rapid growth in automating document-heavy workflows, we are seeking a Technical Product Manager to 1) ensure our product continues to solve our customers' most critical needs and 2) increase the speed at which we are shipping product against those needs.

The opportunity
The perfect foundation to build great software: Heron uses AI to automate document-heavy workflows in financial services. We have a solid product: our largest product helps ~100 lenders and funders automate bank statement analysis, allowing them to provide funding to small businesses faster and on better terms. While we continue to see strong growth, we know there are opportunities to improve and extend our product and deliver even more value to our customers. This is where you come in
Personal growth opportunities: in addition to making an immediate, significant impact, you'll be one of our first product hires and have the opportunity to establish yourself as a leader. Longer term, this means you'll be in a position to go after bigger opportunities with us. Depending on your ambitions, this could mean a few potential paths: owning one of our products as it scales and becomes more complex, leading product development for new workflows/ use cases, or another product leadership role.
An environment where you can do your best work: Underpinning our rapid growth is a lean, scrappy and committed team. We get our hands dirty, move quickly, and aspire to go above and beyond for our customers. We have a very flat structure where you'll work directly with our founders and other leaders in the company every day. The ideal candidate will relish and thrive in this environment.

What you'll do

You'll work across the product lifecycle and be hands-on in driving business outcomes. This would include:

Define product: generate product hypotheses by synthesizing customer insights, market research and your understanding of cutting-edge technology. Critically, you will 'get into the weeds' of our product with our customers to understand their processes and pain points. Then, you'll translate these hypotheses into tangible, prioritized products/ features that our customers will value.
Build product: deliver the product requirements by working with our engineers and getting into the code yourself. Ensure you maintain speed, precision and quality.
Support sales and go-to-market: as a key customer touchpoint and product subject matter expert, you'll support our salespeople. This could take many forms - e.g. technical support on customer demos, or providing input on how to frame a value proposition based on your insights from spending time with our customers.
Lead deployments and customer success: for newly-signed customers, ensure successful deployments (either yourself or working with our Deployment Engineer). Once customers are up and running, act as the primary point of contact for technical issues, working to resolve them promptly. For more complex or systemic issues, you'll work to diagnose them and turn them into product hypotheses to be built.

What we're looking for
Our ideal hire will have:
Proven product building experience: 3+ years building product as a technical contributor, likely at a software or fintech/ financial services company. This could be as a software engineer or other technical product role that required comfort with getting under the hood of a product and working closely with engineers.
Customer and business focus: an intuitive emphasis on customer and business impact, passion for understanding customer needs and quickly delivering products that solve their problems.
Communication skills: an exceptional ability to communicate complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical people, internally and externally (i.e. to customers)
Entrepreneurial spirit: an ownership mindset, results-driven and ability to move quickly. You might have been an ex-founder or previous early product hire.

Above all else, we value people who want to make an impact in their work. Here are some of the behaviors that we expect the ideal candidate will exhibit:
Scrappy and creative: when faced with an obstacle, you will either overcome it by pure determination, or find an unusual approach to navigate it.
Right mix of metrics-driven and imaginative: you know that early-stage product decisions are part science, part art, and thrive on clarifying this ambiguity for the rest of the team.
Persistent: you may not always find the right answer or person immediately, but you're motivated to keep on trying until you do so. You'll go the extra mile - including Flying to Gainesville - if that's what it takes.
Excited to work in a fast-paced, high-growth, team-based environment: we aim to move quickly and decisively, but together. You'll be a great team player and do what it takes for the team to succeed. You value diversity and inclusion in the workplace and understand best practices for building products and a business as part of a team.

What you can expect as a Heron
Competitive compensation, including equity
Based full-time in our NYC office with occasional travel to customers and company retreats
Your choice of top-of-the-line equipment
Competitive benefits package: health, dental, vision with partial coverage for dependents; 401K; uncapped PTO; parental leave

Applicants from any background, and gender are welcome and we have a zero tolerance policy on discrimination.
