Overview

Highlight seeks an experienced and creative UX Designer to join our team at a major federal public health agency. The UX Designer will play an essential role in translating user and business needs into compelling functional designs through human-centered design methods. This individual will work closely with Corporate Communications and Advocacy teams to enhance our digital presence, ensuring our websites are user-friendly, engaging, and accessible. This role is critical in supporting our mission to provide accurate and timely public health information to the public, healthcare professionals, and stakeholders. Responsibilities

  • Design and conduct user research, including writing user interview scripts, defining tasks, conducting interviews, and usability sessions.
  • Create prototypes for testing, understand user behavior through website metrics, and present findings.
  • Design and build wireframes, pattern libraries, and user interfaces.
  • Ensure the technical feasibility of UI/UX designs and test designs across devices and browsers.
  • Collaborate with Information Technology to ensure technical support for maintaining sites.
  • Ensure that all websites comply with brand standards and meet web accessibility (Section 508/WCAG) standards.
  • Proactively seek opportunities to improve the design of our websites using human-centered design methods.
  • Communicate effectively with external and internal stakeholders, including federal agency officials.
  • Participate in design reviews, lead UX workshops, and provide web accessibility testing and remediation as directed.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in IT, UX design, Human-Computer Interaction, or a related field, or equivalent professional work experience.
  • Minimum of 5 years of UX design or related professional experience.
  • Proficiency in front-end coding with strong skills in HTML and CSS; JavaScript knowledge is a plus.
  • Experience with design tools such as Adobe Creative Suite, Sketch, or Figma.
  • Subject matter expertise in WCAG 2.0, Section 508, ADA, and other accessibility laws and standards.
  • Thorough understanding of web development project lifecycle.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills for training and development.
  • Experience in healthcare technology and cause-related marketing fields is preferred.
