The North Carolina Department of Revenue is recruiting for an Exceptions Specialist to work in the Payment Processing/Scanning Section of our Submissions Processing Department (SPD). This position timely deposits and accurately accounts for all taxpayer remittances, to capture and correct applicable data from taxpayer documents for posting to departmental databases and provide records management services. Employee will be responsible for keying in house payment vouchers for timely processing of various tax schedules. Work requires considerable accuracy and attention to detail. Tax submissions must be processed in accordance to strict deadlines and standards to assure timely and accurate record handling. Attention to detail is extremely important. If the employee makes a mistake, the employee could cause a misapplied payment.

Knowledge to input information quickly and accurately from several tax schedules into a computer database. This person should have the ability to prioritize and meet deadlines with a high degree of accuracy, efficiency, and attention detail due to high volumes and consequences of making errors. Must be willing to adapt to a variety of changes and the ability to work well in a remittance processing environment and in a team environment.

Overtime and vacation leave restrictions are required during peak processing periods.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies

Experience with basic knowledge of Microsoft and Excel

Must be able to type 40 wpm and 7,000kph with 98% of accuracy

Experience to apply knowledge of data collection, storage, organization, manipulation and/or analysis of data.

High school diploma or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and two years of related administrative experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
