The City of Irvine has an exciting opportunity for a resource expert to serve as the City's Sustainability Policy Administrator. This individual will possess specialized knowledge in environmental programs with background and experience to plan, organize, and direct the development and implementation of the City's Climate Action and Adaptation Plan.

This work will involve the development of new programs and regulations, extensive public outreach; leading and performing expert level professional work; coordination of development of new regulatory language with City Attorney and consultants; providing competent advice to City policy makers; and presentation to City Commissions and City Council. The work typically is performed under the general direction of the Manager of Sustainability in the Public Works & Sustainability Department.

Your Impact

Plans, directs and coordinates the implementation of the Climate Action and Adaptation Plan (CAAP).Plans, assigns, directs and reviews the work of staff supporting the implementation efforts; allocates staff and other resources to various tasks. Selects, trains and evaluates performance of staff. Develops and implements staff development and training activities.Oversees the work of contractors and city attorney.Acts as expert and advises the Department and City leadership on Climate Action and Adaptation Plan issues; monitors federal, State, regional, County environmental legislation; advises staff in resolving complex or technical issues, serves as the CAAP lead staff of the City's Sustainability Commission and supports other City Committees, Commissions and City Council on Environmental matters.Directs staff in providing technical assistance to ensure City compliance with regulatory requirements and achievement of goals listed in the City Energy Element, Energy Plan, and other codes, regulations, resolutions and policies.Analyzes and recommends procedures consistent with section goals; directs, researches or prepares final reports, correspondence, notices of contract award, contracts, memoranda, and technical advisory reports.Coordinates staff work and reviews reports for such bodies as the Subdivision Committee, Community Services Commission, Finance Commission, City Council and other City and regional approval bodies; attends and participates in public meetings as required.Uses a computer to perform job related tasks, input and maintain records, and/or conduct research as needed.Minimum Training and Experience Required to Perform Essential Job Functions

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Policy or Management, Natural Resource Management, Biology, Sustainable Design and Building, or a related field. A minimum of five years of related professional experience, including knowledge and experience in environmental management, environmental compliance, energy management, waste minimization/waste reduction, energy efficiency and/or environmental sustainability principlesA minimum of three years administrative, budgetary or financial experience.Five years supervisory experience or any combination of education and experience that provides equivalent knowledge, skills and abilities.Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid California driver's license.Desirable Qualifications:Master's Degree in a related field.Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Accreditation.Supplemental InformationYour TeamThe Mission of the Employees of the City of Irvine is to create and maintain a community where people can live, work, and play in an environment that is safe, vibrant, and aesthetically pleasing.
