Position Summary

The Scientist / IACUC Specialist role is an integral part of the Veterinary Sciences team that helps support the advancement of in-vivo non-clinical research activities being approved by the BMS IACUCs.

Key ResponsibilitiesIACUC Coordination:Plan and communicate IACUC agendas.Draft meeting minutes and schedule semi-annual program reviews and facility inspections.Consolidate and issue semi-annual reports to the BMS Institutional Official.Retain IACUC-related documents for USDA, AAALAC International, and FDA inspections.Provide continuing education materials and training to IACUC members.Actively participate in the IACUC cross-site coordinators team and educational forums.Protocol Assistance:Assist in the generation of Animal Care and Use Protocols (ACUPs) using the BMS VS Track III system.Ensure the distribution and processing of ACUPs within the system.Post-Approval Monitoring:Coordinate and participate in post-approval monitoring for activities involving animals.Communicate goals and expectations for the Post-Approval Monitoring (PAM) program to investigative groups, VS staff, and new hires.Review IACUC ACUPs and develop appropriate monitoring plans based on risk level, species, and procedures.Compliance and Support:Demonstrate a good understanding of company systems, policies, and procedures.Participate in the animal welfare risk assessment team as needed.Provide animal procurement support.Actively contribute to writing and performance reviews with one-over manager.Support the west coast site IACUCs (SED, SGL, and BNE) and global animal welfare initiatives.Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the research conducted at the site to support the research effort and Animal Welfare Assurance (AWA) audit program.Qualifications & ExperienceBachelor of Science degree preferred with 5+ years relevant experience in a laboratory animal facility.AALAS LAT certification or applicable industry experience required.CPIA certification preferred, but not required.Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of the requirements of the IACUC as per the Animal Welfare Act and Regulations (AWAR) -9 CFR Parts 1, 2, and 3 and the Guide for the Care and Use of Laboratory Animals, NRC, current edition. The starting compensation for this job is a range from $98,000 to $135,300, plus incentive cash and stock opportunities (based on eligibility). The starting pay rate takes into account characteristics of the job, such as required skills and where the job is performed.
