This role promises not only challenges but also opportunities for professional growth and significant contributions to the field.
Position Summary:
The Principal Scientist in our Medical Device division is a crucial position that demands a proactive individual with extensive experience as a Study Director and a solid background in surgical research. You will play a key role in supporting business development initiatives, managing study execution, preparing comprehensive study reports, and conducting data analysis while acting as the technical authority and representative of the medical device unit.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee the execution and adherence to study protocols, including the development, design, and reporting of exploratory, non-GLP, and GLP in vivo studies.
- Provide oversight and support for surgical research, encompassing pre-operative procedures (such as catheter placement and intubation), intra-operative anesthesia and monitoring, as well as postoperative evaluations and imaging support (e.g., ICE, TTE, TEE, C-arm).
- Draft or update Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to ensure compliance with relevant regulations and industry standards concerning surgical studies, animal welfare, and care.
- Assist with Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) activities, including protocol development, program assessments, and facility evaluations.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable regulations, guidelines, and standards related to animal care and usage (e.g., USDA, FDA, ISO, and AAALAC).
- Support the Attending Veterinarian in managing the clinical care of animals within the facility as required.
- Engage with clients to understand their needs, provide expert guidance, and deliver customized solutions.
- Utilize your extensive knowledge and expertise in the service area to offer scientific support, planning, coordination, and execution of projects within the service line.
- Assist in training research staff, continually enhancing and implementing new best practices.
Qualifications:
- Advanced degree in a scientific field with qualifications in veterinary medicine or laboratory animal research.
- 5-8 years of experience as a study director with a focus on laboratory animal (in vivo) research involving surgical techniques.
- Strong foundation in medical device research, including familiarity with imaging technologies such as X-ray and ultrasound (CRM, TTE, TEE, C-arm) and anesthesia practices.
- Experience in a GLP laboratory, preferably within a Contract Research Organization (CRO) setting.
- Ability to cultivate collaborative relationships, demonstrate a strong work ethic, self-motivation, and adaptability in a dynamic team environment.
