The Senior Payroll Specialist will be responsible for overseeing and executing the end-to-end payroll process for our financial services firm. This position is located in NYC (downtown) 2 days a week in office. $90k-$110k

Client Details

The Senior Payroll Specialist will be responsible for overseeing and executing the end-to-end payroll process for our financial services firm. This role requires strong expertise in payroll processing, risk management, and internal controls. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of payroll regulations, tax laws, and the ability to identify and mitigate payroll risks. You will play a key role in ensuring that payroll operations run smoothly, efficiently, and in compliance with all applicable laws and company policies.

Description

  • Payroll Processing:
    Accurately process and review payroll for all employees, ensuring timely and accurate payment in compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Risk Management and Controls:
    Implement and maintain strong payroll controls to identify, assess, and mitigate risks associated with payroll processing. Conduct regular audits to ensure compliance with internal and external standards.
  • Regulatory Compliance:
    Stay current with changes in payroll-related laws and regulations, and ensure payroll processes are compliant with federal, state, and local tax regulations, wage and hour laws, and other relevant legislation.
  • Reporting and Reconciliation:
    Prepare and review payroll reports, including tax filings, year-end reporting, and reconciliations. Collaborate with finance and accounting teams to ensure accurate general ledger entries and balance sheet reconciliations.
  • Systems Management:
    Maintain and optimize payroll systems and software, troubleshooting any issues and implementing system updates as necessary.
  • Employee Inquiries:
    Address and resolve employee payroll inquiries and issues with professionalism and confidentiality.
  • Process Improvement:
    Continuously assess and improve payroll processes and procedures to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and compliance.
  • Collaboration:
    Work closely with HR, Finance, and Compliance teams to ensure seamless integration of payroll with other business functions and to support broader organizational goals.

Profile


  • Experience:
    Minimum of 3 years of payroll processing experience, preferably within the financial services industry.
  • Knowledge:
    Strong knowledge of payroll regulations, tax laws, and best practices in payroll risk management and controls.
  • Technical Skills:
    Proficiency with payroll software and systems (e.g., ADP, Workday) and advanced Excel skills. Experience with payroll audits and reconciliations.
  • Education:
    Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Human Resources, or a related field preferred. CPP (Certified Payroll Professional) certification is a plus.
  • Attention to Detail:
    Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy, with a commitment to maintaining the highest standards of confidentiality and compliance.
  • Communication:
    Excellent communication skills, with the ability to effectively interact with employees at all levels of the organization.
  • Problem-Solving:
    Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify and address payroll-related issues proactively.
