Position Summary:
The Department of Counselor Education at Florida Atlantic University is seeking a counselor educator to join our faculty on a tenure-track line at the assistant professor rank with an emphasis in School Counseling. The Department, located in Southeast Florida, includes eight faculty members, and offers the M.Ed. degrees in School Counseling, Clinical Mental Health Counseling, Clinical Rehabilitation Counseling, and a Ph.D. in Counseling (all CACREP-accredited). In addition, the Department offers Ed.S. degrees.
Primary responsibilities will include active research and publication, grant writing, service, and supervision and teaching in a CACREP-accredited master's program.
The Department of Counselor Education at Florida Atlantic University seeks scholars who are committed to supporting the learning needs of students from diverse backgrounds and to thoughtfully engaging all communities in higher education. Florida Atlantic University embodies a culture of strategic and collaborative community engagement that results in mutual benefit to the institution and the various internal and external communities that it serves.
Essential Functions:
1. Teach Master's level core courses in a CACREP-accredited counseling program, including a variety of formats
2. Advise and mentor degree-seeking students and serving on doctoral level dissertation committees
3. Participate in all meetings and assigned committees related to the counseling department
4. Develop and maintain an active research line in school counseling and counselor education, including publications and presentations
5. Participate in service activities within the department, college, and university, as well as in professional counseling organizations
6. Work collaboratively and ethically with other faculty, staff, and students within the department, college, and university, while promoting the mission and goals of the department and counseling profession
7. Demonstrate and support a culture of inclusion
Minimum Qualifications:
Earned doctorate from an accredited institution in Counseling or Counselor Education from a CACREP-accredited program.
Practical experience as a school counselor in Pre-K-12 schools.
Currently holds or is eligible for a Florida Teacher Certification, School Counselor Certification or FL LMHC license.
Eligible for membership in Chi Sigma Iota.
Experience working directly with people from various backgrounds and creating educational opportunities where all students can thrive.
Desired Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of CACREP, CAEP, and FL DOE accreditation standards.
Experience using instructional technology to deliver online and hybrid courses.
Understanding of competency-based training.
Knowledge of the ASCA National Model and evidence-based school counseling programs.
Evidence of active involvement with state, regional, or national counseling associations.
Experience teaching graduate level school counseling courses and core general counseling coursework.
Effective oral and written communication, and technology skills.
Evidence for scholarly inquiry, grant procurement, and publication in ACA journals.
