POSITION SUMMARY:

SoWashCo is seeking an individual, in collaboration with the Department of Teaching and Learning, to coordinate, implement, and support all aspects of the EL program. In order to support multilingual students reach their full potential through meaningful, equitable, and targeted educational experiences that affirms and values their unique cultural identities. This coordinator will serve as the primary liaison promoting communication, understanding, and cooperation between the school district and multilingual families. Additionally, this coordinator will support multilingual education district wide. This coordinator will work closely with the Supervisor of EL, and will be part of the Student Support Services team.

PRIMARY JOB FUNCTIONS:

  1. Coordinate EL Services for the district, including supporting supplementary curriculum management to support English language development for EL identified students in the district.
  2. Facilitate EL family engagement programming including, but not limited to; community nights, classroom educational materials, professional development opportunities, and literacy opportunities for multilingual families.
  3. Coordinate the multilingual onboarding process in the district, assisting families with enrollment, orientation to district procedures, providing information to students and families about EL programming, and ensuring a positive transition to buildings across the district.
  4. Partner with the EL Liaison to support multilingual families.
  5. Provide professional development opportunities for the SoWashCo staff around best practices.
  6. Partner with district departments to ensure educational equity perspective is present in all aspects of the school district.
  7. Partner with building principals, school counselors, EL teaching staff to provide equitable educational experiences for multilingual students.
  8. Participate in developing, monitoring and implementing Title 3 funding.
  9. Assist the Director of Multilingual Support Service with state required reporting of iImmigration status and Students with Limited or Interrupted Education.
  10. Collaborate with Human Resources and the Director of Multilingual Support Services to recruit and retain high quality EL teachers, EL paraprofessionals and EL Liaisons.
  11. Advise the Supervisor of EL on issues facing SoWashco's multilingual community within the district.
  12. Reinforce school district equity partnership(s).
  13. Perform home visits (in accordance with district guidelines) in order to convey information about the program.
  14. Partner with outside community agencies to provide resources to support SoWashCo multilingual families.
  15. Assist with state mandated English proficiency screening and testing.
  16. Participate in state conferences and MDE sponsored activities that foster professional learning around best practices for multilingual programming.
  17. Other duties as assigned.
JOB SPECIFICATIONS (EDUCATION, LICENSE, EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES):

Required:

  1. Requires a minimum of a baccalaureate degree in education, EL, or closely related degree
  2. At least one year of experience in a supervisory role in a school district or social service agency working with multilingual communities, families, and students.
  3. Familiarity with federal and state laws that impact EL identified students and multilingual families in the district.
  4. Experience and success implementing culturally and historically responsive pedagogy and strategies.
  5. Verbal and written communication skills, including giving presentations, report writing, and grant writing.
  6. Basic skills in Microsoft Office and Google Suite applications
  7. Interpersonal skills for working with families, students, the community, and within the District.
Desired:

  1. Additional leadership licensure (K-12 administration, Education Director) or in process of obtaining.
  2. Fluent in another language than English, preferably Spanish.
  3. Current Educator license (Teacher, Social Worker, Psychologist)
  4. Experience writing and managing grants
  5. Certificates and/or training regarding intercultural relations, cultural diversity, or other related field(s).
  6. Proven skills in designing classroom/training curriculum.
  7. Understanding of multicultural education in the areas of child and youth development.
  8. Basic knowledge of child and adult learning styles.
  9. Basic knowledge of the social history of oppressed groups in the United States.
