Job Description

The College of Science at the University of Nevada, Reno is seeking a driven and highly personable individual to join the Academic Advising team. We are hiring an Academic Advisor to serve as an essential guide for students embarking on and continuing their education in the College of Science at the University of Nevada, Reno. The Academic Advisor 1 works closely with, and under the direction of, higher level Advisors to perform traditional advising to prospective, new, transfer and continuing undergraduate education students. The Academic Advisor 1 will increasingly gain exposure to core curriculum and major program requirements, participates in retention activities, and may be involved in recruitment events and other college-specific special projects as assigned. Advisors are expected to be empathetic, flexible, and patient resources for the students in our college.

In addition, ideal advisors must be willing to build a strong knowledge base that students will tap into to remain on track in their college career. Required Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree and one (1) year of related work experience OR

Master's Degree and no work experience required

Related Experience: in a field related to student support, human services, education, or related advising position or related experience.

Grants-in-aid for Faculty Employees

The University is proud to provide a reduced-rate tuition benefit to faculty and qualified dependents. Faculty can take up to six credits per semester at a reduced rate. Dependents of faculty have unlimited credits, but in order to be eligible children must be unmarried and under the age of 24 and must receive at least 50% of their financial support from the employee and/or employee's spouse or domestic partner.
