Job Description

The University of Nevada, Reno is recruiting for a Laboratory Technician 1 in the Department of Natural Resources & Environmental Science. ** This position does not provide layoff rights and is contingent upon funding. In collaboration with graduate students, a postdoc, and under the general direction of the PI, this position will provide support for field and laboratory research on ongoing research projects for the Blaszczak lab. The Laboratory Technician 1 will perform data entry, ensure all laboratory protocols and procedures adhere to chemical and general safety requirements, purchase and maintain inventory, conduct sampling of a range of aquatic environments, maintain equipment, prepare samples for analyses, train student workers, and other duties as assigned.

PER EXECUTIVE ORDER

ALL MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS HAVE BEEN WAIVED FOR THIS POSITION UNTIL JUNE 30TH, 2024. Please refer to the link for more information: Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform advanced-level work and may provide work direction and training to others.

Required Qualifications
  • This position requires graduation from high school or equivalent education and two (2) years of laboratory experience performing various laboratory procedures; OR
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience as described above.
Pursuant to NRS , this position has been identified as affecting public safety. Persons offered employment in this position must submit to a pre-employment screening for controlled substances.

A valid Class "C" Nevada driver's license or higher operator's license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.

Schedule

The typical work schedule is Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm; this is subject to change based on organizational needs.

Compensation Grade

Grade 25

In classified service, salary is in Grade and Step. The Step is determined based on the Nevada Administrative Code. Salary placement above a Step 01 at initial appointment is determined based on the recruitment, the candidate's qualifications, internal equity and budgets. A request to accelerate salary must be approved by Human Resources and abide by the Nevada Administrative Code.
