The Position: The Senior Accountant ensures the integrity of accounting information by recording, verifying, and processing transactions and assists the Chief Financial Officer and Controller in support of the Club.
Essential Responsibilities:
  • Manages A/P, A/R, and bank reconciliation functions.
  • Provides high quality administrative and accounting support spanning GL, reconciliations, and reporting.
  • Serves as a timely and positive first line of accounting support to internal and external customers.
  • Maintains and balances subsidiary accounts by verifying, allocating, posting, and reconciling transactions and resolving discrepancies.
  • Brings new ideas and innovations to increase efficiencies in the accounting department as well as throughout the organization.
  • Protects organization's value by keeping information confidential.
  • Accounts Payable
    • Charges expenses to accounts and cost centers by analyzing invoices, expense reports, and credit card transactions.
    • Pays vendors and referees via check and third-party payment system, respectively, upon approval from responsible directors.
    • Maintains accounts payable support records.
    • Calculates and enters sales tax paid to each North Carolina county on invoices.
  • Accounts Receivable
    • Analyzes all player receipts to accurately record in accounting system.
    • Posts payments by recording cash, check, and credit card transactions.
    • Posts revenues by verifying and entering transactions from deposits.
    • Issues refunds for transactions deemed refundable by responsible director.
    • Tracks unpaid accounts and resolves collections.
    • Tracks and informs program directors of status of delinquent player accounts.
    • Maintains deposit support records.
  • Miscellaneous
    • Manages player eligibility process.
    • Prepares quarterly Sales and Use Tax report for reimbursement claim.
    • Assists program directors in use of registration software.
    • Assists Controller with monthly and year-end reporting and annual audit.
    • Assists with various (about 10/year) Club-wide, all-hands-on-deck events such as tryouts and tournaments.
    • Performs other incidental and related duties as required and assigned by Controller, Chief Financial Officer, or Chief Executive Officer.

Qualifications/Competencies:
  • At minimum, an associate degree in accounting and 5+ years of experience in a similar role required. Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Experience in customer service preferred.
  • Experience working in non-profit accounting or similar not required, but preferred.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel required.
  • Experience with QuickBooks, Microsoft Office Suite, and Adobe preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:
  • Detail-oriented.
  • Strong problem identification and resolution skills.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as a team member.
  • Ability to communicate professionally both verbally and written.
  • Ability to adjust to and master new software solutions.

  • Strives for continuous improvement of processes to improve efficiency and accuracy.

Job Type Requirements:
  • Full-time; salaried position.
  • The traditional work hours for this job are 9am-5pm (Monday – Friday), but it is expected this person will work extra hours as needed to fulfill all job requirements.
  • Occasional weeknight and weekend commitments are necessary to fulfill event support, sponsor activation, etc.

Work Environment/Travel/Physical Demands:
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; use hands to key, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms.
  • Most of this person's job is conducted in the office, but occasionally, work will require this employee to attend outdoor youth sporting events during all seasons, including extreme. temperatures and inclement weather, to fulfill job responsibilities and event support.
  • Physical demands: bending, sitting, lifting, and event set-up.
