We are recruiting for a skilled and experienced Controllerto join a dynamic team with a reputable and stable company in Richmond, VA. The Controller will play a key leadership role in managing all aspects of the company's accounting operations, financial reporting, and internal controls. This position requires strong technical expertise, strategic thinking, and a commitment to driving excellence in financial management.

Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the day-to-day operations of the accounting department, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger maintenance, and financial reporting.
  • Lead the month-end and year-end close processes, ensuring accuracy and timeliness in the preparation of financial statements, reconciliations, and reports.
  • Develop and maintain internal controls and procedures to safeguard company assets, mitigate risks, and ensure compliance with accounting standards and regulations.
  • Prepare and analyze financial statements, variance reports, and other financial data to provide insights into business performance and support strategic decision-making.
  • Coordinate with external auditors and tax professionals to facilitate audits, reviews, and tax filings, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Drive process improvements and efficiencies in accounting operations, leveraging technology and best practices to streamline workflows and optimize resource allocation.
  • Provide leadership and mentorship to accounting staff, fostering a culture of collaboration, accountability, and continuous learning.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including finance, operations, and executive leadership, to align financial objectives with overall business goals.
  • Stay current on changes to accounting standards, regulations, and industry trends, and ensure timely implementation of updates and revisions.
  • Perform ad hoc analysis and special projects as assigned by senior management.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA certification preferred.
  • Minimum of 7years of progressive accounting experience.
  • Strong technical expertise in accounting principles, financial reporting standards, and internal controls.
  • Proficiency in accounting software and enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex financial data and communicate insights to stakeholders.
  • Strong leadership abilities with a track record of effectively managing and developing accounting teams.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build relationships and collaborate across departments.
  • Detail-oriented with a commitment to accuracy and integrity in financial reporting.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks, manage competing priorities, and thrive in a fast-paced environment.
