Job Summary

The Commonwealth of Virginia is seeking a highly skilled Accounting Manager to join our team in the Department of Fiscal Services. As a key member of our financial operations team, you will be responsible for managing a team of professionals in Accounting to ensure the accuracy and timeliness of financial processes and compliance with state and federal regulations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage a team of accounting professionals to ensure the accuracy and timeliness of financial processes
  • Develop and implement policies and procedures for accounting functions
  • Provide leadership and guidance to general accounting, accounts receivable, fixed assets, internal controls, and financial reporting
  • Ensure compliance with state and federal regulations and generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP)
  • Develop and maintain financial reports and analyses to inform business decisions
Requirements
  • Considerable knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and practices
  • Experience with financial software applications, including spreadsheet and word processing software
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to make sound judgments and decisions
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills, with the ability to motivate and guide a team
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and prioritize multiple tasks and deadlines
Preferred Qualifications
  • Accounting degree and Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or Certified Management Accountant (CMA) certification
  • Experience with Cardinal financial software
  • Knowledge of the Commonwealth's Accounting Policies and Procedures (CAPP) manual
