Overview

The Office of the Attorney General (OAG) serves as the principal legal authority for the State of Maryland, overseeing the legal affairs of various state agencies and ensuring compliance with state laws. The OAG is dedicated to safeguarding the public interest through the enforcement of laws related to antitrust, civil rights, consumer protection, and securities, while also addressing serious criminal activities such as organized crime and fraud.

Position Summary

The OAG is currently seeking qualified candidates for the role of Fraud Investigation Auditor within its Medicaid Fraud and Vulnerable Victims Unit. This position involves performing detailed audits and investigations related to suspected fraudulent activities by healthcare providers, including but not limited to allegations of patient mistreatment, opioid misuse, and fraudulent billing practices.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with team members to uncover and analyze intricate fraud schemes.
  • Assess fraud allegations and formulate comprehensive investigative strategies.
  • Analyze Medicaid claims data to identify patterns indicative of fraudulent behavior.
  • Review financial documentation and trace assets to support investigations.
  • Construct financial models to inform settlement discussions.
  • Conduct interviews with witnesses to gather evidence.
  • Compile and scrutinize extensive data sets for potential use in legal proceedings.
  • Provide testimony in court and grand jury sessions as required.

Qualifications

Education: High school diploma or equivalent certification.

Experience: Minimum of three years in administrative or professional roles.

Substitutions: Relevant college coursework or a degree may substitute for experience. Military service in a relevant capacity may also be considered.

Preferred Skills:

  • Proficiency in database software such as Access and Excel.
  • Experience in forensic accounting or fraud investigation.
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.

Licenses: A valid Maryland driver's license is required for this position.
