A Police Officer II plays a crucial role in upholding laws, regulations, and policies to safeguard individuals and State assets. This position operates under the guidance of a Police Officer Sergeant and does not entail supervisory duties. Officers may be required to work various shifts, including weekends and holidays, ensuring readiness for duty at all times to facilitate seamless agency operations.

Key Responsibilities for the Police Officer II position include:

  • Upholding laws and regulations pertaining to the safety of personnel and State property
  • Managing traffic flow, enforcing parking rules, investigating incidents, and issuing citations
  • Documenting incidents in accordance with agency protocols
  • Conducting investigations into criminal activities for resolution and legal action
  • Executing arrests and providing testimony in court
  • Administering emergency assistance and first aid to individuals in need
  • Responding to disturbances, emergencies, and suspicious occurrences
  • Carrying out additional tasks to support the agency's law enforcement and security objectives for Department of General Services properties

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Completion of an accredited high school program or equivalent certification recognized by the Maryland State Board of Education as per the Maryland Police and Correctional Training Commission regulations.

Experience: A minimum of six months of experience as a certified law enforcement officer.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Preference will be given to candidates with at least two years of experience as a Certified Law Enforcement Officer in Maryland.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Candidates must hold a Police Officer certification as mandated by the Maryland Police and Correctional Training Commission at the time of application.

Those who have been certified as a Police Officer by the Maryland Police and Correctional Training Commission within the last three years and are eligible for recertification will meet the certification requirement.

Employees may be required to obtain a special police commission in accordance with the Public Safety Article, Section 3-209, Annotated Code of Maryland.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Selection criteria, including background investigations, oral assessments, and physical evaluations, are established by the Maryland Police and Correctional Training Commission. Candidates may need to provide contact information for follow-up.

Employees should be prepared for substance abuse testing and must demonstrate knowledge and proficiency with firearms as per Maryland regulations.
