Job Title: Police Officer II

A Police Officer II plays a crucial role in upholding laws, regulations, and standards to safeguard individuals and State assets. This position operates under the supervision of a Police Officer Sergeant and does not entail any managerial duties. Officers may be required to work various shifts, including weekends and holidays, ensuring readiness for duty at all times to facilitate smooth agency operations.

Key Responsibilities of the Police Officer II include:

  • Upholding laws and regulations to protect personnel and State property
  • Managing traffic flow, enforcing parking rules, investigating incidents, and issuing citations
  • Documenting incidents in compliance with agency protocols
  • Conducting investigations into criminal activities for resolution and prosecution
  • Executing arrests and providing testimony in court
  • Administering emergency assistance and first aid to individuals in need
  • Responding to disturbances, emergencies, and suspicious behaviors
  • Carrying out additional duties to support the agency's law enforcement and security objectives for Department of General Services properties

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Completion of an accredited high school program or equivalent certification recognized by the Maryland State Board of Education as outlined in the Maryland Police and Correctional Training Commission regulations.

Experience: A minimum of six months of experience as a certified law enforcement officer.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Preference will be given to candidates with at least two years of experience as a Certified Law Enforcement Officer in Maryland.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS, AND CERTIFICATIONS

Candidates must hold a Police Officer certification as mandated by the Maryland Police and Correctional Training Commission at the time of application.

Individuals previously certified as a Police Officer by the Maryland Police and Correctional Training Commission within the last three years and eligible for recertification will meet the certification requirement.

Employees may be required to obtain a special police commission in accordance with the Public Safety Article, Section 3-209, Annotated Code of Maryland.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Selection criteria, including background investigations, oral assessments, and physical evaluations, are established by the Maryland Police and Correctional Training Commission. Employees may need to provide contact details for call-ins.

Employees should be prepared for substance abuse testing and demonstrate proficiency in firearms as per Maryland regulations.
