Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit
University Development's purpose is to support the mission of the university by raising private resources to enhance financial support for students, faculty, programs and facilities. University Development provides leadership and centralized services to all development offices throughout the University, serving as a focal point for annual giving, application development and IT support; campaign management; constituent programs; corporate and foundation relations; donor relations; gift planning; gift services; industry relations; marketing/communications; parents giving; principal gifts; prospect management, research and analytics; regional programs; scholarships and student aid; talent management; university events; and volunteer engagement.

Position Summary
This position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement that may include a partially remote work location, consistent with System Office policy. UNC Chapel Hill employees are generally required to reside within a reasonable commuting distance of their assigned duty station.

The Assistant Director of HR is responsible for the overall administration, coordination, and evaluation of the human resources function within the University Development Office (UDO), which consists of 20+ departments with approximately 160 full-time employees when fully staffed. This includes administering human resources policies, programs, and practices related to classification and compensation, recruitment, performance management, employee and management relations, etc. The position acts as a liaison with the University's office of human resources (OHR) and EEO in all areas of human resource management within UDO. This position will also focus on talent sourcing and will be the main point of contact for onboarding initiatives.

The position reports to the Executive Director of Talent Management and Acquisition.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Bachelor's degree and two years of progressively responsible professional human resources management experience; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be from appropriately accredited institutions.

Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
Candidate must possess excellent oral and written communication skills, sound business judgment, tact and diplomacy, and the ability to interact with personnel at all levels of the University. Experience with writing position descriptions, as well as classification and compensation analysis. Demonstrated ability to work in a team. Demonstrated excellent customer service skills. Self-motivated and ability to act independently. Demonstrated attention to detail. Discretion with personnel information and data protection. Intermediate experience with Windows including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
Prior experience working in a higher education setting. Familiarity with internal UNC-CH systems and procedures. Strong understanding of development staff classification and compensation. PHR, SPHR, SHRM CP, SHRM-SCP, SPHR, or an equivalent professional qualification preferred.
