Job Description

About This Role

This position supports our Research & Development organization. Individual will own the accounting for Phase 2/3 clinical trials. Candidate will partner with Clinical Financial Planners (CFPs), study teams and External Vendors to understand clinical trial contractual terms, incurred activities and Biogen obligations, with the goal to accurately account and report on clinical trials related fees and services for assigned trials.

This role will also take part in all monthly and quarterly control activities around clinical trials and participate as needed in any ongoing process improvement initiatives. Position will report to the Associate Director, R&D Accounting.

What You'll Do

  • Responsible for month-end/quarter-end close for selected Phase 2/3 clinical trials, including preparation, upload to Oracle and documentation of journal entries
  • Maintain control of key areas of balance sheet including monthly/quarterly reconciliations and support of external and internal audit
  • Ensure compliance with SOX requirements and BiogenAccounting Policies & Procedures
  • Partner with Clinical Trial Financial Planners to analyze actual vs. budget variances
  • Manage other R&D Accounting processes as assigned during the month/quarter end closes
  • Drive high quality, accurate, financial and operations analysis and reporting
  • Collaborate with Clinical Trial Financial Planners, Clinical Trial Managers and Contract Managers to ensure that payments to CRO's and investigators are consistent with the contract. Act as point person for accounting/invoicing issues for assigned clinical trials.
  • Identify and work to implement improvement initiatives where more financial rigor is required or where we can gain efficiencies.

You have experience with accounting and have an interest in biopharma and the drug development process. You are a self-starter excited about working with multifunctional teams. You set goals and work independently towards meeting deadlines. You are someone who likes to look into details but can also see the big picture and maintain a "80/20" mindset.

Qualifications

Required Skills

  • 5 to 7 years relevant accounting or mix of accounting and finance experience required
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance
  • Proficient in Excel
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and customer service orientation
  • A proactive thinker with a healthy dissatisfaction for the status quo

Preferred Skills

  • Biotech, Pharma, and/or drug development experience
  • Prior experience with Hyperion/Oracle
  • CPA/MBA
