General Summary of Position
MedStar Health Southern Maryland Hospital is actively seeking a part-time Medical Laboratory Scientist to perform a variety of laboratory testing from waived to high complexity per Clinical Laboratory Improvement Act (CLIA). Will work in one or more laboratory sections. Evaluates and reports results for use in patient diagnosis and treatment.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

Subject Matter Expert (Perform and document quality control procedures and proficiency testing in accordance with established parameters and standards.Accurately enter assay results into client reportsResolve validity issues and amend reports.Provide phlebotomy and other specimen collection.Ensure client turnaround times (TATs) are met.

Minimum Qualifications
Education

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field. required

Experience

  • Two years previous Medical Technologist experience in comparable clinical laboratory setting required and
  • Two year experience with chemistry, hematology, blood bank and micro set-up experience preferred

Licenses and Certifications

  • Certified Medical Lab Scientist-ASCP ASCP, HEW preferred or
  • equivalent preferred

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Ability to comprehend and follow the policies and procedures for MedStar Southern Maryland Hospital Center.
  • Ability to read, write and speak or communicate in English to successfully accomplish the essential duties of the position.
  • Ability to demonstrate ethical behavior that supports the hospital's mission, values and commitment to compliance with all federal, state and regulatory laws. Inspires trust and exhibits honesty and integrity within the scope of daily activities.
  • Exhibits professionalism, courtesy and excellent customer service, while interacting with patients, guests and co-workers.
