Medical Laboratory Specialist

This position is responsible for providing technical and non-technical services in the laboratory service areas. The successful candidate will work with independence to perform routine and complex laboratory tests in all assigned departments of the clinical laboratory to provide physicians with rapid and accurate laboratory test results.
Key Responsibilities- Follow established procedures to perform all lab tests, including all levels of complexity as defined by CLIA, to obtain data for use in the diagnosis and treatment of disease.
- Employee will be cross-trained and competent to perform in multiple areas/disciplines of the lab.
- Assesses acceptability of specimens for analysis and maintains integrity of the specimens throughout the entire testing process.
- Performs set up on all laboratory equipment, instruments, and apparatus required for specific laboratory testing.
- Operates all laboratory equipment per standard operating procedures to ensure accurate patient test results.
- Recognizes critical and/or life-threatening results and notifies the appropriate clinical personnel per hospital policy.
- MLT: Associate's degree in Medical Laboratory Technology or related science and MLT (ASCP), or equivalent, certification or Categorical Certification or Medical Technology Program Certificate or HEW Certification or Minimum of 1 year experience performing High Complexity Testing OR equivalent combination of above.
- MT: Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology or related science and MT (ASCP) or equivalent, certification or MLT (ASCP), or equivalent, certification or Categorical Certification or Medical Technology Program Certificate or HEW Certification or Minimum of 1 year experience performing High Complexity Testing OR equivalent combination of above.
- Demonstrated ability to work as an effective team member.
- Demonstrated organization skills and attention to detail.
- A minimum of 1 year of clinical laboratory experience is preferred.
