The Revenue Accounting Manager role presents a unique opportunity to lay the foundation for a scalable revenue recognition function and to build out robust revenue recognition procedures for newly developing business lines at a high growth leader in the digital asset space. This person will play a critical role in month end close activities and help us build for scale and contribute to the design, documentation and implementation of policies, processes and controls related to revenue recognition under ASC 606.

We have created the Factors of Growth & Impact to help Villagers better measure impact and articulate coaching, feedback, and the rich and rewarding learning that happens while exploring, developing, and mastering the capabilities and contributions within and outside of the Revenue Accounting Manager role:

Technical Skills:

  • Evaluate customer contracts for non-standard terms and conditions that have revenue recognition implications and document the proper revenue accounting treatments in collaboration with Technical Accounting.
  • Apply advanced skills in Google Sheets to efficiently and reliably work with large data sets.

Complexity and Impact of Work:

  • Partner closely with billing/AR team members to facilitate a timely month-end close, with specific focus on revenue recognition journal entries.
  • Interface with Legal and Sales to ensure consideration of revenue recognition outcomes in the negotiation phase of new contracts.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvement in revenue accounting procedures and support initiatives to implement enhancements.

Organizational Knowledge:

  • Consult with business unit management teams to deeply understand near and longer term plans for new product and revenue streams and to Implement new pricing/contract structures, providing guidance on revenue optimization opportunities and risk mitigation strategies.
  • Conduct comprehensive revenue analysis and act as a key point of contact for the FP&A team on revenue matters.

Communication and Influence:

  • Standardize and document processes with an intentional approach to create shared consciousness and eliminate single points of failure.
  • Assist with internal and external audit processes to ensure accuracy and timeliness of financial reporting.
  • Ability to document and communicate accounting procedures in a way that enables data engineering teams to support automation efforts.

You may be a fit for this role if you have:

  • 6+ years of relevant public accounting and/or industry experience in technical revenue accounting.
  • Fluency in ASC 606 and the ability to research complex accounting issues in partnership with technical accounting team members.
  • A proven track record of designing processes to operationalize and scale technical revenue accounting conclusions for complex contracts.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills and an ability to drive cross functional projects and influence cross functional stakeholders, including GTM organizations and engineering teams.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel or Google Sheets.
  • Ability to multi-task, thrive in the face of ambiguity and excel in a fast-paced, rapidly evolving organization.

Although not a requirement, bonus points if you:

  • Are proficient with NetSuite or other revenue recognition software.
  • Have experience in the SaaS or technology industry.
  • Have kept up to date with the proliferation of blockchain and crypto innovations.
  • Were emotionally moved by the soundtrack to Hamilton, which chronicles the founding of a new financial system. :)
