Position Summary:

The Manager, Business Process Optimization (BPO) Safety is a member of the BPO team who works directly with the Global Marine Operations (GMO) Safety & Marine Standards team to identify process improvement opportunities, develop strategies, and implement initiatives to enhance the overall safety standards and compliance within the Global Maritime Operations team.

This position will help drive the team forward with continuous improvement strategies across the marine departments and brands including joint ventures. This is a highly collaborative role working with team members across a global organization and will consult with internal and external stakeholders, as well as vendors, regulators, or classification societies to gather, analyze, and report data for recommended courses of action.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Drive a culture of continuous improvement and safety awareness through the maritime department.
  • Conduct Risk Assessments and develop mitigation plans to address safety risks associated with Marine operations.
  • Develop, analyze, oversee the implementation of and evaluate existing safety processes, systems, and workflows to identify areas for improvement and optimization.
  • Implement process improvement methodologies to drive continuous improvement across the organization.
  • Streamline safety processes while maintaining compliance with industry regulations and standards.
  • Manage and oversee the budget allocated for safety initiatives, ensuring efficient resource allocation and cost-effective implementation of safety programs.
  • Lead the Safety AOP process.
  • Monitor and analyze safety performance metrics, benchmarking against industry standards and best practices.
  • Utilize data analysis and performance metrics to measure the effectiveness of safety initiatives and identify opportunities for further improvement.
  • Provide support to team on updated safety procedures and best practices.
  • Stay informed on industry trends, regulations, and emerging technologies around marine safety.
  • Collaborate with cross functional teams to integrate safety considerations into various aspects of maritime operations, including emergency response planning, maintenance procedures, onboard activities, Newbuild startups, etc.
  • Collaborate with Systems team to leverage technology and automated solutions for process optimization.
  • Acts as the liaison between the composite Marine Operations teams, especially the Safety Organization, serving as the single point of contact for collecting and sharing requested information between parties and at required intervals.
  • Monitors the operations metrics, targets, and results through the management of KPIs.
  • Manages follow ups to audits, investigations, guest, and crew safety initiatives, etc.

Qualifications, Knowledge & Skills:

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, Maritime Safety, or a related discipline preferred.
  • Minimum 5-7 years of experience in safety management, preferably in a maritime or cruise industry setting.
  • Strong knowledge of relevant safety regulations and industry standards.
  • Experience in conducting safety audits, inspections, and incident investigations.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams.
  • Ability to work in a dynamic, multicultural maritime environment.
  • In depth knowledge of safety management principles and practices.
  • Familiarity with relevant safety regulations and industry standards, such as SOLAS (Safety of Life at Sea) and ISM (International Safety Management) Code.
  • Strong leadership skills and the ability to inspire and motivate teams.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Proficiency in using safety management software and tools.
  • Ability to analyze data and identify trends to drive continuous improvement.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
