Position Summary

HSA Bank is looking for an energetic, collaborative, and tech savvy leader to join our leadership team as the Director of Systems Engineering. The future of Health Savings Accounts is bright, and you'll play a key role in contributing to our mission of innovating our business and creating a superior customer experience. Effective communication across multiple levels of the organization coupled with your desire to remain close to technology working alongside your team of systems engineers are key success factors for the role.

Your team will drive infrastructure/cloud projects and support the platforms that power HSA Bank's business applications and internal/external integrations.

This position reports to the Managing Director of HSA Bank Technology and Operations. You'll own a slice of the broader IT infrastructure landscape focused on HSA Bank configuration management and enterprise technologies. You'll collaborate with other IT and business leaders and peer groups. You'll be empowered and challenged to drive change, innovation, and continuous improvement.

Key Roles and Responsibilities

Leadership & Team Management

  • Offer consistent leadership, mentorship, and guidance to a team of systems engineers responsible for configuration management, maintenance, security, and support of HSA Bank's enterprise technologies, integrations, and web services.
  • Lead using agile best practices to balance team capacity and maximize team output. Enable team productivity by acting with urgency to remove blockers for your team and to resolve incidents, security vulnerabilities, and IT risk items within your area.
  • Elevate direct reports through constructive feedback and effective coaching to keep them motivated, engaged and performing at expected levels. Provide training and development opportunities as new technologies arise and to enhance the skills and overall knowledge of the systems your team supports.

Partnership and Communication

  • Develop relationships and trust by communicating effectively and keeping commitments with IT leaders and stakeholders. Plan the work and work the plan with your team. Proactively set expectations, reset expectations when things change, and keep others informed from beginning to end.
  • Partner with other IT teams to meet each other's needs and dependencies, adhering to IT policies and SLA's. Balance competing interests across the organization to arrive at a clear technology roadmap for your team.
  • Work closely with software engineering teams to understand platform and environment requirements needed to support new applications or enhancements.

Strategy & Continuous Improvement

  • Foster a team culture of collaboration, continuous improvement, and innovation. Inspire a shared purpose of intent and awareness between IT strategy and team assignments.
  • Execute technology roadmap within your area aligned to HSA Bank's short and long-term strategic plans. Ensure infrastructure designs and solutions meet existing and future business needs.
  • Develop metrics and reporting to communicate overall systems health, compliance, service levels, backlog, and staffing capacity for your team. Present monthly to IT leadership team.

Operational Excellence

  • Manage HSA Bank's enterprise technologies. Coordinate with other IT teams and vendors to configure, manage, and support these systems and ensure they stay compliant with risk and security policies.
  • Manage the setup, maintenance, and support of internal and external integrations (i.e. API, SSO, etc.). Ensure optimal performance and compliance with internal and external service level agreements.
  • Oversee configuration management of HSA Bank platforms and environments including application configuration settings, certificate management lifecycles, governance of service accounts and password rotations, OBDC connections, load balancers, inner-system connectivity, network communications, etc.
  • Oversee concurrent projects with minimal direction. Includes day-to-day tactical execution of key tasks that run the business. Streamline operational efficiency through automation of manual tasks or new solutions.
  • Ensure the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of systems and data. Ensure infrastructure and operations adhere to regulatory requirements, industry standards, and internal policies related to security and privacy.

Platform Support - 24x7

  • Our business runs 24x7, so you'll be responsible for the security, availability, reliability, resilience, and performance of the HSA Bank platforms your team oversees. Includes all facets of system maintenance, operational support, vulnerability management, and change management.
  • Be the escalation point for your area. Partner with other support groups (i.e., Service Desk, Incident Management, Application Support, Line of Business, CIS, etc.) to quickly respond, establish ownership, and resolve incidents within internal and external service levels.
  • Balance your teams on-call calendar to ensure adequate coverage and timely response and resolution to Critical and High severity incidents during non-business hours.

Key Skills and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, computer science, or related field with 8 or more years of progressive experience working in IT operations, system administration, or infrastructure roles.
  • Experience with people leadership or team management favorable.
  • Ideal candidate will be action-oriented, accountable (for self and others), decisive, resilient/adaptable to change, and able to articulate thoughts and direction to direct reports, business partners, and IT leaders.
  • Advanced knowledge of IT infrastructure, configuration management, relational databases (Microsoft/SQL Server), operating systems (Windows/Linux), Active Directory, and enterprise network topology.
  • Moderate to advanced knowledge of managing highly available applications in a cloud-based environment. AWS experience/certifications favorable.
  • Moderate knowledge of DevSecOps best practices and tooling
  • Moderate knowledge of programming Infrastructure as Code (IaC).
  • Moderate technical proficiency with Python, PowerShell, Bash.
  • Moderate understanding of ITIL process and tools (change control, incidents, service requests, CMDB)
  • Basic knowledge of object-oriented programming and design is favorable.
  • Basic understanding of ML/AI capabilities. Hands-on POC or implementation experience favorable.
  • Basic understanding with agile methodologies utilizing scrum and Kanban. Jira experience favorable.

The estimated salary range for this position is $145,000.00 to $165, Actual salary may vary up or down depending on job-related factors which may include knowledge, skills, experience, and location. In addition, this position is eligible for incentive compensation.
