This Role
Offers expert technical support and advice for the assessment, investigation, remediation, impact evaluation, permitting, design, development, and execution of utility, industrial, and commercial projects across both public and private sectors. Engage in the research, design, conceptualization, and construction of transmission and distribution substations, power distribution systems, power regulation, renewable energy solutions, as well as protection and control systems across diverse contexts, including utilities, transportation, and government projects at various levels. Produce precise and clear reports and documentation concerning materials, installations, components, and construction specifications. Ensure that responsibilities are executed with a quality standard that meets or surpasses industry norms for design, safety, and functionality.
Your Contributions
- Gather, compile, and evaluate data related to substation components and equipment specifications for procurement package development and pricing, as well as design review processes in accordance with IEEE/NESC Standards/NERC regulations.
- Assist in the evaluation of third-party design documents, procurement lists, and project plans.
- Conduct professional electrical engineering tasks related to the design of single line, three line, wiring diagrams, general arrangements, substation layouts, grounding grid designs, and lightning protection in compliance with applicable standards and permits.
- Participate in the integration of innovative techniques, concept development, operational strategies, and various design requirements with equipment sizing and cabling, AC/DC panel design, and trenching strategies that prioritize safety and functionality.
- Support senior engineers with research and recommendations regarding essential components identified in design requirements and field equipment applications.
- Assess site characteristics, providing technical assistance on engineering, design, testing, maintenance modifications, and construction issues.
- Develop electrical calculations for loads, equipment sizing, feeder sizing, voltage drop, grounding, lighting circuits, and power distribution.
- Create data visualizations such as tables, charts, reports, sketches, and illustrations for the interpretation or presentation of findings.
- Maintain quality control standards and procedures for accurate measurements, statistical analysis, and reporting.
- Collaborate as part of a cross-functional team of engineers, planners, and construction professionals to execute project work, assist with installations, calculate costs and quantities of materials, and ensure compliance with specifications and regulatory requirements.
- Contribute to the development and scoping of small to medium-sized projects.
- Assist in preparing technical reports and presentations that clarify research findings aimed at improving or addressing design and electrical engineering challenges.
- Conduct engineering studies and surveys to gather information on specific design and construction issues and plan for future needs.
- Support the analysis and interpretation of data from field investigations, contributing to action plans for risk mitigation.
- Assist in the formulation and implementation of site Health and Safety Plans (HASPs).
- Work collaboratively with other engineers on projects involving electrical infrastructure authorities on funded improvement and development initiatives.
- Exercise responsible decision-making regarding company resources and adhere to ethical standards and policies.
- Take on additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering.
- 3 to 5 years of relevant experience in electrical engineering focused on power transmission and distribution systems.
- Engineer in Training Certification.
- Familiarity with operations and project controls for reporting purposes.
- Understanding of electrical engineering principles, practices, and their application to project work.
- Experience in infrastructure planning, design, and construction management.
- Ability to coordinate with regulatory agencies and comprehend requirements.
- Knowledge of engineering and electrical construction laws, codes, and compliance practices.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills for effective interaction with diverse audiences.
- Effective self-management with attention to detail and ability to handle multiple priorities.
- Proficiency in technical writing and use of design software.
- Critical thinking and problem-solving skills to derive logical solutions from data analysis.
- Commitment to workplace safety and adherence to health and safety policies.
- Flexibility to work schedules that may extend beyond typical hours.
- Willingness to travel as needed for project requirements.
- Master's Degree in Engineering.
- Professional Licensure/Certification.
- 40-Hour OSHA Health & Safety Training (HAZWOPER).
- Basic First Aid and CPR training.
