Director - Performance Improvement

Under the direction of the Vice President, Chief Quality Officer, the Director of Process Improvement is responsible for driving hospital-wide performance improvement using Lean/6-Sigma methodologies, tools, and other techniques to optimize processes, eliminate waste, improve quality, and reduce costs. Develops people to solve process problems using a data driven approach to improve performance and promote Lean thinking to foster a culture of continuous improvement. Oversees a team of Process Improvement Specialist, and partnering with Operational and Quality leadership, helps align process improvement initiatives with organizational vision, mission, and strategic goals.

EducationBachelor's degree Industrial Engineering or other Engineering/analytical equivalent background Required andMaster's degree Preferred Experience5-7 years of related experience in the implementation and management of process improvement/lean techniques and tools required with 3 of which in a healthcare setting preferred demonstrated experience in managing multiple projects/people in a leadership role Required Knowledge, Skills, and AbilitiesExcellent presentation skills and communications skills.Accomplished at relationship management.Strong background in Lean/6-Sigma methodologies and tools.Organizes and coordinates PI department projects, including organizing and delegating work in an effective manner, establishing appropriate time frames for completion of work, and providing necessary leadership to ensure effective work resultsCollects, analyzes, and interprets qualitative and quantitative data that provides clinical and hospital leaders meaningful information, applying keen analytic insights and capability to translate diagnostic findings to a non-analytic audiencePresents complex information such as data driven analysis and reports, methods, and other results in a logical and understandable format to a wide variety of audiencesWorks collaboratively with members of the President's Center Executive Team and MedStar Washington leaders to identify and establish process improvement priorities, resource allocation decisions and project timelinesSelects, develops, manages, and evaluates direct reports: ensure performance appraisals are completed in timely fashionFacilitates improvement and redesign, including administrative and clinical workflowsEducates and coaches leaders in adoption of lean methodologies, tools, and processesTracks project deliverables, monitors, and reports on progress of projects and appropriately escalates roadblocks through regular update meetings with Senior LeadershipDevelops and communicates ongoing process improvement/lean management strategies and ensure alignment with MedStar Washington's mission, vision, and values and with other hospital-wide initiatives
