We seek a dynamic Nursing Director for the White 7, a 27-bed General Surgery Unit.

This role is an essential leadership position within the hospital organization and encompasses oversight and management for safe, high-quality patient-focused care, personnel management and development, clinical operations, and the development of highly effective partnerships throughout the Department of Nursing and across all disciplines and organizational departments.


The clinical nursing staff supports the vision and practice under the guiding principles of the Department of Patient Care Services.

The staff is committed to delivering highly skilled, high-quality family-centered care to the patients and their families.

Reporting to an Associate Chief Nurse, the Nurse Director provides leadership in an environment that celebrates and empowers nurses.

In collaboration with a Nurse Practice Specialist or Clinical Nurse Specialist, hire, develop, and provide direction to clinical nurses and unlicensed clinical support staff.

Partner with nurses, physicians, administrative colleagues, and other disciplines to guide and direct clinical practice, systems improvement, network development, and operations.

Negotiate and plan for interdepartmental resources with other department managers to ensure the best level of services to direct care providers and, ultimately, patients.

Promote professionalism and autonomy by engaging staff in planning, decision-making, and the many educational resources available for further development.

The patient care delivery model is patient and family-centered; care is exceptional, comprehensive, accessible, supportive, and personalized.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Centered Care:

Ensure high-quality, patient-focused care by implementing and evaluating care standards, collaborating with healthcare professionals, and promoting culturally sensitive practices.


  • Team Leadership: Manage and supervise nursing staff and support personnel, foster staff development, and oversee clinical practices. Participate in staff hiring, evaluations, and professional development.
  • Administrative Excellence: Oversee the unit budget, meet financial targets, and ensure compliance with hospital standards. Drive process improvements and advocate for vital resources and system improvements.
  • Operational Management: Maintain a safe and efficient environment, direct daily activities, and manage equipment and supply use. Lead projects to improve the physical environment of the unit.
  • Collaborative Engagement: Partner with department heads and other disciplines to improve processes and outcomes. Participate in performance improvement activities and collaborate with community health organizations.
  • Professional Development: Engage in continuous learning and professional growth. Participate in leadership groups and committees, and stay active in national nursing organizations.
  • Demonstrated experience in a leadership role is preferred. Surgical experience preferred.
  • Demonstrates leadership/managerial skills, including interpersonal competence, organizational skills, financial management, personnel management, hardiness, and adaptability.
  • Current licensure as a registered nurse in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
  • Master's degree required; either Bachelor's or Master's degree must be in nursing.
