The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) seeks an innovative change agent with substantial experience in national airport policy.

The Deputy Associate Administrator for Airports is responsible for ensuring a safe and efficient system of airports, the adequacy of substantive aspects of the FAA rulemaking actions relating to certification of airports, the administration of airport grant programs, environmental and social requirements and compliance-related policies.

The incumbent oversees a budget of approximately $7B and provides Executive leadership and direction over a geographically dispersed workforce of approximately 600 employees to include 14 Executives and approximately 67 senior employees drawn from a variety of disciplines and professions.


Specifically, the Deputy Associate Administrator for Airports:

Formulates and articulates the strategic vision for the organization in alignment with the agency's strategic objectives and utilizes technical and personnel resources to efficiently and effectively accomplish the strategic plan.

Ensures a viable planning structure and system of priorities are in place to meet the Office of Airports (ARP) requirements and objectives.

Directs FAA planning and execution of programs emphasizing the safety, security, capacity, efficiency, fiscal responsibility and economic and environmental sustainability, with due consideration of state and local government priorities as well as the rights of private landowners and commercial stakeholders.

Oversees broad, emerging, and critical large-scale airport-related programs, initiatives and/or special studies per legislative, Presidential, and/or Department priorities; recommends legislative changes or systemic changes in regulations that ensure aviation safety and promote an efficient aerospace system.

Oversees the development of performance measures to gauge if ARP programs are meeting established goals and objectives. Ensures performance measures are meaningful, credible and practical.

Directs program evaluation to determine the degree to which ARP effectively responds to expanding program requirements, emerging and evolving airport technologies, airport infrastructure systems, environmental laws and regulations, and funding alignment.

Maintains close and continuing contact with representatives of Congress, national military services, other Federal agencies, state and local governments, the aviation industry, airport sponsors, airport management, and various other domestic and foreign public and private organizations concerned with airport planning, programming, management, standards and operations to present and defend Department of Transportation/FAA positions on airport-related matters.

Promotes, supports, and participates actively in the FAA Equal Opportunity Program and helps identify and resolve EEO issues or complaints.
