Job Summary/Basic Function

The department of Mathematics is accepting applications for Temporary, Part-time Instructors to teach introductory mathematics and statistics courses. Duties include teaching face-to-face and/or online classes days, evenings or weekends as scheduled and being available to students by holding appropriate office hours.

In addition to teaching, there is an expectation for scholarship and service commensurate with the assignment.

The purpose of this posting is to generate a pool of qualified faculty. Applications submitted will be reviewed on an as needed basis based on enrollment. Anyone meeting the qualifications may be contacted for an interview and potentially hired when a need exists. In the event that you are interviewed but not immediately hired, your application will remain in the departments pool of qualified faculty.

Required Qualifications
  • Master's Degree or Ph.D. in Statistics, Mathematics, or Mathematics Education.
  • Must have at least 18 graduate-level semester credit hours in mathematics and/or statistics.
  • Evidence of ability to successfully teach diverse student populations.
  • Excellent oral, written, interpersonal communication skills.

  • Successful teaching demonstration for class teaching assignments.

  • Experience teaching statistics.

Job Description

TEACHING AND PROFESSIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES :

Potential courses include basic mathematics through precalculus and applied calculus, as well as introductory statistics: MATH 090, MATH 100, MATH 101, MATH 130, MATH 151, MATH 160, and MATH 235.

Part-time faculty members shall maintain a prorated number of office hours each week, at a minimum of twenty-five (25) minutes for each workload hour taught, at such days, times and locations as will accommodate the needs of the students.

This position requires in-person instruction on Millersville University's campus. This position is contingent upon sufficient enrollments in assigned classes.

DEPARTMENT DESCRIPTION : The Department of Mathematics , in the College of Science and Technology, has approximately 170 undergraduate major/minor students, and all majors are assigned to the full-time faculty members within the program for course advising and program mentoring. The department offers B.A., B.S. and B.S.E. degrees in mathematics with options in statistics, actuarial science, and applied mathematics, as well as an M.Ed. degree in mathematics education.

  • Use computer for email, obtain information on websites, prepare class documents, grade papers, submit final grades online and other duties related to teaching and advising students and serving the department, college, university, and community.
  • No or very limited exposure to physical risks.
