Job Summary/Basic Function

The Research Associate plays a crucial role in the enhancement and management of the prospect research initiative within the Development Office of University Advancement. This position is integral to the success of fundraising efforts and donor engagement strategies.

Required Qualifications
  • Three years of advanced clerical or para-professional experience or an equivalent combination of experience and training.
  • Proven experience with database management and proficiency in Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to:

    • Maintain confidentiality.
    • Work autonomously.
    • Understand academic and office policies.
  • Experience in composing and editing detailed reports.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Two to three years of experience in higher education fundraising or a non-profit context.
  • Two to three years of experience in prospect research or management.
  • Familiarity with database systems (preferably Banner) and software packages (such as Hyperion, LexisNexis, Wealth Engine) in a Windows environment.
  • Experience with electronic database searches.


Job Description
  • Oversee the development and management of the prospect research program within the Development Office.
  • Create and maintain prospect records, tracking the status of prospect moves management and proposals.
  • Conduct thorough research and develop profiles on potential prospects and existing donors to support donor development strategies.
  • Generate and distribute reports detailing donor interactions and prospect status.
  • Review and process information from reports submitted by development officers.
  • Collect and verify key constituent information using various sources to update database records.
  • Establish and revise policies and procedures related to prospect research functions.
  • Maintain accuracy and integrity of corporate and foundation records in the Advancement database.
  • Research and update records for corporate and foundation constituents, ensuring information is accurate and relevant.
  • Collaborate with University Advancement staff to maintain specialized groups of organizations.
  • Assist in training student workers and graduate assistants in database maintenance and prospect management.
  • Participate in relevant meetings and professional conferences to stay informed of industry trends.
  • Support the Advancement Information Services team in data integrity and filing procedures.
  • Serve as a backup for related positions as needed.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
