The opportunity

Magic Leap's Workplace Operations & Services roles ensures Magic Leap's internal operations run efficiently through the execution of coordination, integration, and administration of diverse responsibilities across real estate, facilities, environmental, and operational functions. Workplace Operations & Services roles vary in focus and execution across facilities/ site operations, safety, security, core administrative/ operational support, company assets management, and real estate. Areas of responsibility include performing support services; identifying, acquiring, designing, constructing, and operating exceptional, safe, secure, and creative environments; managing, planning, repairing, and maintaining Magic Leap's company facilities and assets; ensuring safety and security across Magic Leap.

As a Senior Facilities Technician within our Workplace Operations & Services organization, you will be responsible for ensuring the efficient operation of all buildings, manufacturing, research and development, office facilities, machinery, and equipment. This role focuses on hands-on work and does not include management or supervisory responsibilities. Activities include a) Working with manufacturing & engineering teams to plan efficient utilization of manufacturing /R&D space, facilities, layouts & modifications, plan, coordinate and install installation of new high volume manufacturing equipment and removal of obsolete equipment b) Assisting internal facilities staff and external vendors in the areas of facilities maintenance & repair, Mechanical, Electrical, & Plumbing c) Assist in construction build outs and decommissioning of Magic Leap offices & manufacturing/R&D facilities.

What you'll do

  • Ensure cleanroom, lab, and office spaces meet strict regulatory and operational standards
  • Assist with the installation and maintenance of major equipment, ensuring optimal functionality and seamless integration with the manufacturing process. This includes infrastructure related to the equipment, such as deionized water systems, acid waste neutralization systems, process gasses and chemicals, electrical, mechanical, and plumbing systems
  • Participate in construction activities to ensure compliance with safety regulations and industry standards, including build-outs and decommissioning of facilities
  • Maintain comprehensive maintenance programs, including preventive and corrective maintenance schedules, ensuring minimal disruption of production
  • Diagnose maintenance issues, perform repairs, equipment overhauls, upgrades, and modifications
  • Contribute to facility layout changes, including planning and overseeing the physical movement and rearrangement of machinery
  • Ensure all safety protocols are followed, report accidents and injuries promptly, and participate in safety meetings and training.
  • Ability to update stakeholders on project progress and manage vendor relations
  • Assist with emergency and routine facility operations, ensuring seamless coordination and execution of tasks.

The experience you bring

  • 5+ years of professional experience in Facilities Operations, preferably in semiconductor, manufacturing, biomedical science facilities or a similar environment
  • Proficient understanding and experience with cleanroom standards and protocols (e.g., ISO 14644, GMP)
  • General knowledge of mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and HVAC systems, as well as general building maintenance practices
  • Hands-on experience with process gasses, chemicals, and navigating cleanroom environments
  • Proficient troubleshooting and problem-solving skills for various facility-related issues
  • Excellent understanding and application of safety standards
  • Customer-centric approach with a proactive, on-the-ground attitude tailored for the demands of a factory environment

  • Experience with Building Management Systems (BMS) and automated control systems
  • Skilled in coordinating and overseeing external contractors and vendors
  • Advanced or technical degree in electrical, mechanical, plumbing disciplines, controls, etc.

Additional Requirements

  • On-Call Schedule: 7-10 days/month: M-F 5pm- 7am, all day/night on Saturdays, Sundays, and Holidays
  • Adherence to a flexible work schedule, accommodating operational needs spanning from (7am-4pm, or 8am-5pm)
  • Ability to safely lift and maneuver heavy objects
  • Flexibility to travel approximately 10% of the time, whether for training or additional support
