What will I do in this position if hired?

In this position, you will serve as a senior level regional functional expert in the hazard mitigation area. Manages and directs regional delivery of hazard mitigation operations before, during, and/or after an event, incident or disaster.

Typical assignments include:


Works risk reduction through regulations, local ordinances, land use and building practices, and mitigation projects that reduce or eliminate long-term risk from hazards and their effects.

Engages risk reduction programs such as National Flood Insurance Program, Community Assistance Program- State Support Services Element (CAP-SSSE), Risk Map, Building Science, and Hazard Mitigation Assistance (HMA) Grant programs.

Provides subject matter expertise to aid communities to adopt and enforce floodplain management regulations, which will mitigate the effects of flooding on new and improved structures.

Reviews floodplain management regulations for compliance.

Promotes the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) which has a goal to reduce the impact of flooding on private and public structures by providing affordable insurance for property owners.

Helps communities reduce socioeconomic impact of disasters by promoting the purchase and retention of insurance through the NFIP.

Travel requirements in support of emergency operations may be extensive in nature (weeks to months), with little advance notice, and may require employees to relocate to emergency sites with physically austere and operationally challenging conditions.
