Nimbus has an outstanding opportunity for a Head of Program Management and R&D Strategic Operations to join our team. This individual will partner with the CMO and CSO to optimize R&D operations and serve as the key strategic partner for the CMO in development strategy, including planning and executing key governance meetings. In addition, this role will lead a group of program managers and program directors to support our pipeline molecules. You will report to our Chief Medical Officer.

In This Role, You Will:

Project Management

  • Build/maintain and coach/mentor a group of Program Managers that:
    • Exhibits ownership and take on a leadership presence to act as thought partners with TA heads, Clinical leads and Asset Leaders and team members to execute program strategy
    • Contributes to program strategy based on experience, business acumen, and rigorous inquiry
    • Translates strategy into integrated R&D plans and drive flawless execution by holding team members accountable through influence, harmonization of cross-functional input, and fit-for-purpose project management techniques
  • Develops and maintains high functioning teams and identify areas of concerns to address in partnership with Asset Leaders
  • Lead monthly pipeline governance meetings including driving agendas, working with teams to clearly articulate objectives for meetings, serving as secretariat, and conducting ongoing assessments of effectiveness to identify areas for continuous improvement
  • In partnership with Finance and the People Team, drives the annual planning process for workforce planning, budget, and objective setting to deliver a strategy that aligned with objectives and budget across individual programs and the pipeline
  • Establish standards for planning for pipeline and programs, e.g., standard/generic timelines by phase and indication
  • Contribute to the development of corporate initiatives, specific Business Development activities and various organizational initiatives
  • Maintain flexibility to support pipeline as needed

R&D Strategic Operations

  • Partner with organizational leaders to identify and drive strategic initiatives as needed to have fit-for-purpose R&D organization; includes implementation and embedding of processes
  • Focus on continuous improvement for current processes to ensure they remain relevant and appropriate for Nimbus; identify potential issues that impact R&D and convene appropriate forum to address that includes cross-functional input
  • Integrate strategy and operations to deliver flawless execution aligned with corporate objectives
  • Drive and optimize decision making through clear identification of issues, seeking cross-functional input, and driving for alignment on recommendations for solutions
  • Facilitate R&D presentation and preparation for Board of Director, Science and Technology Committee and other governance meetings
  • Facilitate Development Leadership Team meetings to ensure ongoing alignment of pipeline status including program risk, strategy, budget, objectives, and timelines
  • Facilitate Development Operations group to align organization on ways of working, resourcing, and objectives including align functional resources with strategy and objectives
  • Provide Alliance Management resource to partnered R&D programs that drives alignment of strategy and business objectives with partners

These Qualifications Will Help This Role Be Successful:

  • 20+ years R&D experience within pharmaceutical or biotechnology industry
  • 8+ years experience in Project Management on interdisciplinary or cross-functional project teams
  • BA/BS in a scientific discipline is required (advanced degree preferred) with demonstrated track record within small molecule drug development
  • Experience leading strategic corporate, pipeline, and program initiatives
  • Ability and desire to coach, manage, train, and integrate a high-performing team
  • Excellent interpersonal skills required, along with an ability to develop relationships with key stakeholders and work collaboratively, skilled in conflict management/negotiation
  • Highly proficient in utilizing project management best practices, project planning, and facilitative decision-making. Skilled in goal setting, prioritization, and time management
  • Broad understanding of biopharmaceutical drug development, including working knowledge of relevant ICH, GLP, and GCP guidance and regulations
  • Prior alliance management experience strongly preferred
  • Project Management Certification (PMP or equivalent)
  • Excellent written and oral communication and information management skills; ability to interact with a diverse groups of individuals
