Job Summary: The Security Resources Assistant I provides security services to the University community by monitoring, receiving, processing, and responding to information dealing with physical security access control and safety issues under close supervision.


Additional Department Summary: The Security Resource Assistant I represents the University of Alabama positively by performing various tasks related to the safety and security of campus. Provides safety assistance to the University community and visitors. Performs foot patrol. Secures and locks University facilities. Responds to alarms. Receives and processes requests for non-emergency assistance. Staffs central monitoring station. Maintains a variety of logs and files. Works 12 hour shifts (days or nights) to include weekends and holidays. Works extended hours and overtime to include weekends and holiday hours as needed. Meets regular attendance and punctuality requirements. Accomplishes the essential functions, with or without reasonable accommodations, in a timely manner. Observes and adheres to all safety rules and regulations as listed on product and equipment labels and as directed by management.


Required Minimum Qualifications: High school diploma or GED and some experience.


Additional Required Department Minimum Qualifications: Must be able to work 12 hours shifts (days or nights) to include weekends and holidays. Must be able to perform foot patrol which includes extended periods of walking and staking as well as climbing stairs and work outside in all weather conditions. Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. on an occasional basis.

Prior to a contingent job offer applicants must successfully complete departmental interview, criminal history check, and detailed background investigation.

Upon contingent job offer applicants must successfully complete a psychological profile and a training program followed by a 1040 hour probationary period.

Final candidates who are not current University of Alabama employees must submit to and successfully pass a post-offer drug screen.

Must have valid U.S. driver's license. Must be at least 19 years of age at time of hire and have an acceptable Motor Vehicle Report that is in compliance with University policies. Ability to maintain good interpersonal and working relationships with staff, co-workers, managers, citizens, and University community members.

Professionalism: Ability to represent the department to others with a courteous, helpful, accurate, and business-like attitude in all telephone and personal contact, maintaining a professional tone at all times. Ability to maintain confidentiality.

Quality of Work: Ability to provide high-quality, accurate work. Ability to quickly and efficiently transition between multiple critical tasks and remain focused under stress. Ability and willingness to show initiative in completing work assignments.

Other Abilities: Ability to hear and understand sound sources coming through a communications headset; speak and write English clearly; read and discern visual images on a variety of media.

Technical Knowledge: Ability to acquire and maintain a working knowledge of public safety communications equipment, practices, and procedures to include but not limited to: departmental protocol and instructions, department-specific software systems, the University of Alabama campus buildings and locations, appropriate law enforcement codes.

Preferred Qualifications: Experience in a customer service-oriented environment. Experience in dispatch. Experience in security or law enforcement. Experience in dispatch. Experience in a high-volume operator or call-center.
